As someone who follows a struggling team it irks me greatly to read this kind of stuff from the Bulldogs CEO. As a player, Steve Mortimer is one of the greats. As an administrator, he is even better, for his club. Not for Rugby League though.

I can't blame Canterbury for Wests Tigers current on field disfunction but I can blame the NRL for allowing Canterbury to pull the greatest hoodwink on Rugby League ever. They suffered for one season soI guess the blame doesn't lie with Canterbury but with the NRL itself.

I look through our (Wests Tigers) player listing and I doubt that there's one player who would get a start at the Dogs. I look at Souths, North Queensland, The Storm and the Eagles and I think the same thing. There wouldn't be too many from the Raiders, Eels and Sharks that would get a start either.

As for Moffo, your claim that there isn't a Dogs player who would make the top 15 or 20 in the NRL, is, with respect mate,a load of crap. How many Dog's players are in the NSW SOO 30? How many will play for Qld? How many are a guaranteed part of the NZ national side?

How many Wests Tigers players will be in any of those three sides?

0.

The Dogs are prospering because of their cheating. If they win the competition this year it will be the hollowest of hollow victories ever.

The NRL is ignoring the issue, the mere fact that the statement issued by Steve Mortimer was pulled from the NRL website is testament to that.

It does piss me off a little bit since I know for a fact that Canberra were very close to signing Vagana and Omeley before they went to the dogs and they also went close to getting Mason.

Still, no use worrying about it, they are not breaking the rules and ill be suprised if the all re-sign anyway. Other clubs will get the word out that they are interested and the money will tempt a couple of them.

I amhearing still plenty of rumours about Mason and Canberraas well;)

Players i regard as above any member of the dogs team:

Andrew Johns
Darren Lockyer
Shane Webcke
Ben Kennedy
Brad Fittler
Craig Wing
Gordon Tallis
Stacey Jones
Ali Laui'titi
Brett Kimmorley
Scott Hill
Craig Fitzgibbon
Nathan Hindmarsh
Trent Barrett

Just my opinions of course

As for all the other crap in this thread, all i can say is, its only an internet forum guys. Time to put things in a bit of perspective

Cheers,
Moffo

That's the perfect retort.

A wave of the hand and a hearty "You're all talking crap".

Your club borders my club. My club has struggled for years, legitimately.

Sure, Wests Tigers is not the number one place that players want to go to but trying to understand how Canterbury have a World Class side and mine is Group 6 class when both sides have the same cap is obviously beyond me.

It's not the lifestyle, if it was then Anasta & Co. wouldn't have ocean views. I doubt that any of the top players live within 10 klm of the Club. It could be pride in the Jersey, if that was relevant these days.

What is it that makes these guys want to stay at the Bulldogs?

Money.

Moffo, if this thread upsets you, ignore it.

The team that really suffered is Parramatta. The amount of players that they've had to offload or have left for better money because of the cap is phenomenal.

Moffo. That list you put together is farmed from 8 or 9 other teams.
You have one St George player there who would make it into the Bulldogs lineup.

In recent years, Saints have had to seriously reduce their personnel to get under
the cap and now we have only one player who, by your reckoning,
would play first grade for Canterbury.

That should you tell you something.

No, i said that those players i would list above any bulldogs player

That does not mean that a guy like Shaun Timmins wouldn't make the dogs side. Im just saying that there are dogs players that are better than him, but not necessarily all of them

Tough shit to Parra EA. They stole four of our best players in 95 and paid 9m in the process. Its big spending efforts like that that contributed to the f**king up of the salary cap and the consequental period of moderate spending.

It doesnt upset me at all, couldnt care less to be honest. My only thoughts on this thread is that Turvey is not the sharpest tool in the shed and that we should wait until the final results come out before we pass final judgements

My comments in post 24 were based on the petty squabbling seen in this thread and several others

Cheers,

Ok, Moffo. The list is not players who would make the Bulldogs lineup...
Its merely those who you rate as being better than any Bulldogs players.

Yeah OK, I can see the difference... I think.
But the list is still from just about every other club in the NRL and imo, doesnt serve
your argument very well.

As for your example about having players poached from Parramatta in 1995
(1995??).. well you do that at your peril but mate, that was near eight years ago.
We're talking about now.
Nevertheless, I'd be interested in hearing more about this $9 miilion that the Eels
spent buying players in 1995. Do you have anything that can back this claim up?
Was it part of the SL plague? Seems a little early for that age of splurging.

"...wait until the final results come out before we pass final judgements"
Normally I would agree but we have to keep an eye on these Bulldogs characters.
Whether you like it or not, the revelations of the last few years make people suspicious.
I'd be willing to hazard a guess and say that the NRL has been playing a
'wait and see' game since it came into existence. And look at what that got us.

It was widely reported at 9m and i believe most signed 3-4 year deals. At the time, McCracken, Smith, Dymock and Pay were four of the premier players in the game and seeing that the going rate for most of the top stars was approacing 1 million during the height of SL stupidity, i think the 9m figure would be about right

Put it this way Willow, can you name me one dogs player that is 'guaranteed' selection in the NSW or QLD teams this year? I think you will find the answer to be no, and that is why i say that we don't have a team with superstars in it. We might be amongst the best teams in the comp, but its because we have a great team, not so much great individuals

Cheers,
Moffo

"9m and i believe most signed 3-4 year deals"
Well thats a bit different.
Apart from the fact that it was eight years ago, it also seems that this figure is an estimate from over four years.

I suppose we could mention again the words of a certain departing Bulldogs administrator who declared that Bulldogs salary cap rorting problems had been going on since 1996.
Would that be relevant?

With respect, I still cant see what this has to do with the Bulldogs hanging onto
the same squad that they had last year when the scandal broke.
I think this is the crux of the issue.

Wrong thread.I'll try again.
El Dickweed is the biggest troll on these boards.
The slimeball speaks nothing but crap. You're an idiot for trying to make peace with him RD. Notice how the halfbreed didn't acknowledge your gesture? Next time you decide to hold a glass of cold one to this felcher, crack it over his head!
Tell me something Marty, who is responsible for the carpet burns on your knees in getting a Managers role here? Have the burns healed yet Marty, or was thatone of the prerequisites before getting the badge? You know, carpet burns cease only when he wants them to...huh? Wipe your mouth Marty, you're dribbling!
How on earth you clowns made this outcast a Manager is beyond me. I've never seen a more pathetic representation of a community than having this greaseball as a Manger.
I thought you had more integrity then that Ed? Shame on you mate! If the shoe fits, huh?

The going rate for top players was never $1m.The superstars at the time ,Daley,Stuart,Fittler etc,got $600k to maybe $700k.
The players signed by Parra (Actually they were signed by the ARL and then placed at Parra) were on average paid about $450k.
The $9.m tag was made up by some scribbler and may have been close if you added up the salaries of Smith,Dymock,Raper,McCracken,Ritson etc over 4 years.
To add to the Canterbury mystery,Mortimer originally floated the idea of a 15% pay cut across the board to get under the cap(which they were $1m over) $1m is 15% of $6.66m
not $3.25m, so how did that work?
Turvey subsequently announced that it wasn,t necessary to make those cuts.
So you can,t blame the rest of the NRL who have been forced to shed players to make the cap for being a bit confused by the Dogs arithmetic.
