Uhmm Allan Border lost a home and away ashes series. Hardly a noob captain. AB was also the most famous for selecting his mates. Yes, over time AB took a rag tag bunch of incosistent talents to second (Behind WI) on the podium and is remembered as one of the greater captains. He single handledly kept Marsh in the team. You seen Geoff Marsh's test record? Aint pretty reading. From memory he kept Steve woah woah what is he good for Waugh in the team, long before that talent was realised in 1989! But christ; lets not make out that it always plain sailing for captains; just because Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh inherited teams with McGrath and Warne, and with batting lineups that prevented Matt Hayden or Dean Jones and many more guns from getting a sopt in the team.
I think you're selectors are a joke for selecting Doherty. FC average of 48... Thats terrible. But whats Ricky gotta work with here; McGrath used to do his job no fuss. Flemming, Gillespie, Kasprowicz and Lee were all competing for the other seamer positions. Now Ricky has a bi polar precocious talent in Mitchell Johnson who cannot decide consistently whether to hurt the batsmen into submission or bowl wide long hops. Siddle who charges him for limited movement; but at least at the very least seems to want the ball in his hand even though he does limited things with it. Doug is talented but injury prone....
10 years on top and Australian Cricket fans will not accept anything less than totally outplaying the opposition. You had a good run - but like the Windies your run was going to inevitably dwindle. This aint Ricky's fault. To go from McGrath and Lee to Siddle and Johnson, or worse; to go from Warne and McGill to Hauritz and Doherty. Or almost as bad; to have the 3rd best Wicket keeper batsman (of all time?) who was almost at Andy FLower/Kumar Sangakarra levels meant your test middle order used to finish at seven. That's a luxury the team has been robbed from. What's Ricky supposed to do? This aint PS3; he cannot create new player.
