I need some convincing....

The dogs were the most abysmal, poorly performed side since the Gold Coast in the early 90s during the second half of 2008. A 50-0 scoreline was almost expected as our paper thin defence and terrible halves got exposed on a weekly basis

So dogs fans, convince me why 2009 will be different. We have a new, but untested coach, no depth and a lot of dead wood hanging around the club. My main worries are:

The halves. Sure Kimmorley will bring experience but he will also bring a reputation as someone who does not perform behind a good pack of....

Forwards - this is my main concern. Sure we've added Stagg, Hannant and Ennis. Ennis is a great buy no doubt and easily the best purchase. Stagg and Hannant for mine are yet to prove themselves as individual players. They played in an outstanding forward pack that was incredibly well coached. Are they good enough as individuals to stand out? I hope so but I have some reservations

We have a bit of a dads army look to our team with El Masri, Kimmorley, Ryan and to a lessor extent Patten.

I'm sorry guys, I hope I'm wrong, but we've got some big hurdles to get around if we are to succeed in 2009.

My biggest hopes are for Barba and Kite. I hope they come through as these guys are the future of the club

Cheers,
Moffo

What did you miss watching Western Suburbs in 1998 & 1999 or something?

Hannant is top notch... stagg... put it this way - I wasn't crying when they said he was leaving the broncos.

moffo don't be so gloomy. i think you guys have bought well, and will improve considerably in 2009. i can't see you winning the comp but i can see a possible top 8 if you can keep most of your best on the field.
as for pinning your hopes on benny barber i wouldn't i have seen a lot of him, and although he is a fantastic attacking player he can't defend and has a very bad temper and is prone to severe brain explosions.
his younger brother marmon on the other hand is a gem.

Best recruiting team of 09 for sure. But still won't be an easy run into the 8. Last year was so poor that all that recruitment merely brings them back to the rest of the field.

Adam, that is probably the best description I have seen for where the dogs are at. It is rebuilding phase at Belmore and they have started going about it the right way.

ok,

i think:

ennis,morris - good buys
hannant,stagg - potentially good buys
kimmorley - f**king sh*t buy

probably a fair comment adam

hannant, stagg and ennis potentially = sbw replaced
morris > tonga
kimmorley = f**ked if i know

so with that in mind, i still cant see how we are going to improve that much. anyway, maybe i should just shut up and be positive

Kimmorley's success will depend entirely on whether you have a good five eigth I reckon. Last year Kimmorley had a terrible start, didn't get a try assist for about half the year if i remember correctly, but his combination with Seymour clicked and things improved big time. When Seymour got injured though everthing turned to sh*t. That was my view on things anyway. I'm not a Noddy fan...

I think Kimmorely is a much better buy than Hannant. Stagg isnt too bad of a buy considering there isnt really anyone else, Morris is a good buy, I wouldnt be pinning your hopes on Ennis though, he's a grub and i wont be surprised to see him have a bit of a Todd Carney style year off the field.

While we were very poor last year I don't think we were that bad of a side (if that makes sense). We just had a lot of dramas off the field and our lynchpin leaving mid-way during the season didn't help either. After that I knew we'd struggle big time. I know it shouldn't be like this but I didn't look like the players had anything to play for. I know they should play for pride and to avoid the spoon but it was obvious that we weren't and its hard to get yourself up every week with all the dramas going on at the club including the boardroom/coaching dramas.

I'll be happy if we make the 8 and I think Noddy will be our best signing. Definitely not the best player that we have signed but we haven't had an organising halfback for a while. Heck even Sherwin wasn't much of an organiser but we had a much better forward pack. Since we lost some of those guys we've had Roberts and Holdsworth doing most of the organising and they are both extremely ordinary at it to say the least. Roberts needs to be able to do his own thing and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a good season (or ends up getting the sack for another off-field indiscretion).

I think we also need a fit Luke Patten back. Its no coincidence either that when we were poor the General wasn't playing. He is the rock of our side.

Because Canterbury, much like Manly arent down for long, unlike some other clubs that take 30 year breaks between titles.
