I thought Ch 10 was to cancel The Simpsons Re-runs in November?

I'm a huge Simpsons fan and have the first 9 seasons on DVD (probably nearing the end of my collection).

Season 1 - 8: Awesome
9 - 12: Less classics as each season continues but still a few goodins
13 - 15: Scraping the barrel now
15 ----> FUUUUU-

In it's prime it will never be beaten for me. Homer has lost everything that once made him such a brilliant character. Now it's just so obvious they are trying too hard. It gets worse each season as they try to recapture what was lost so many seasons ago.

Also, I reckon Mr Burns is one of the most underrated characters on the show ever...

I dont think that its a matter of them trying too hard or having run out of ideas. The problem is that the current writers just arent anywhere near as good as the original ones were, so the jokes arent as funny and the stories arent as interesting/clever as they used to be.

The Simpsons Movie further convinced me that this was the case. It was written by Groening and the same writers who were there at the beginning and to me it was classic Simpsons back to doing what they do best, making me piss myself laughing.

There was a definate character shift on the Simpsons which is what has ruined it. You look at the show in its prime, an episode like Las Exit to Springfield and that was a brilliant show, and the Homer Character in particular was at his best (not very smart but his heart in the right place). This has shifted to a mean, stupid jerk.

I really enjoyed the movie, I treated it as just an extended episode, I think some people expected way too much out of it and as such were disappointed.

I love Homer, but I hated how they made him a mean, stupid jerk in the movie. I hated the movie too it was a massive let down

I usually find Marge annoying, but they made an alright character out of her in the movie ... it was geniused

I agree with this, each to their own of course but i think a lot of people expected it to be something it was never going to be, 20 years of one of the best TV shows in history built up an impossible standard in peoples minds that a single movie could never live up to. For me the movie was like classic old simpsons at their best, just a longer version. The story had to be a little more fleshed out but the characters and the feel of it was spot on i thought.

I think the problem with the show nowadays is a combination of the writers just not being as good as the original ones, and the fans that have grown up watching and loving this show are approaching 25 - 30 years old so their comedic tastes have somewhat changed.

The Simpsons will forever sit at the top of my list of favourite shows of all time, and by a huge margine. I can forgive the show for not being as funny as it used to be to me because of the sheer volume of hilarity it has shown over the years, those episodes will never be lost, the quotes will never be forgotten and the memories will always be strong. None of that dissappears just because they arent what they once were.
