I think the speculation that the fact that Bennett held off announcing his decision until after his "team" had played and the fact that he didn't announce it yesterday meant he was coming to Newcastle is pure fantasy.

I believe that he wouldn't do it just in case it took the wind out of the Knights sails if he said no, prior to tonights game.

I think all the talk about private jets and millions of dollars would have pushed him to the Rabbits, I feel he wouldn't want to be thought of as a coach that went to the highest bidder.

I'm happy to be wrong but I feel he will go to Souths, just to prove all the pundits wrong.

The lifestyle part of the deal will be to much for Bennett to refuse. I think that is what it will come down to.

I don't think Bennett will take the moral highground on 4.2 million dollars or whatever Tinkler's offering.

I was thinking along the same lines.

Put it this way, I suspect that after all the speculation, if Bennett turns down the Knights, they are going to stumble for a while because I reckon the players would have struggled not to think about it and the future.

What worries me is that the Bennett deal is far from done, on balance I reckon he'll go to Souths due to the weight of media pushing him to Newcastle.

I'm worried because I'm still not sure about Stone, its 1 step forward, 2 back all the time.

How does the media have any say in any of this? It is quite the stretch of credibility if you think Bennett will go to Souths because the media say he is coming here. The media have been chinned in the 12th round for the KO by bennett and they are filthy. All the morons who said it was a done deal he was going to Brisbane. They have f###ing SNAKE EYES. NOWT.

i honestly don't know where he will go. this is our first foray into the big time with our shiny new owner. who knows what can happen. i see more reason for him to wait till after the game tonight if he were going to Souths, though... would risk deflating us announcing it beforehand. i sorta wish he did now, we couldn't have played much worse surely.

Wayne Bennett perfect fit for Knights -Andrew Johns
Barry Toohey

CLUB legend Andrew Johns last night described the Knights and Wayne Bennett as a "perfect fit" and predicted a Tinkler-Bennet combination would be just about unstoppable if the Dragons coach links with Newcastle.

"It would be great for the club and the town to have someone like Wayne come on board as coach in Newcastle," Johns said yesterday.

"He'd love it up there. He'd love living in Newcastle. He'd really enjoy the lifestyle and the people would love him. They'd worship him. It would be the perfect fit."

Johns said he was not surprised at the hype surrounding Bennett and where he will coach in 2012.

"Wayne's a coaching legend who just about guarantees you success," Johns said.

"Look at what he's done with the Broncos and the Dragons.

"Put him with Nathan Tinkler and the sort of resources and passion he's got for the Knights and you've got a very powerful combination."

Johns believed current coach Rick Stone would not lose out if Bennett links with the Knights.

"It's a credit to Stoney how he has handled the whole Nathan Tinkler-Bennett thing," Johns said.

"I think having someone like Wayne up there for a few years and for Stoney to be able to work closely with him - it would be great for him."

Former Knights captain and ex-coach Michael Hagan said Bennett's record and influence speaks for itself.

"There is no question the benefits for the Knights would be tremendous," he said.

"From the point of view of getting a more professional structure in place, Wayne's influence would be long term.

"It would be a real coup."

Whether he's going to Souths or coming here, I just wish he'd announce it already. From the press conference last night it's obvious that it's messing with Stone, and there's a big possibility that it would flow on to the players. I agree that he's going to Souths, so I just wish he'd announce it so we can move on.

The whole not wanting to announce it until after last night's game incase it distracted or deflated the Knights was bullsh*t. I reckon the players of both clubs would know either way.

Also I don't think the media suggesting he will be at Newcastle hurt our chances. Everyone brings up the Roosters thing, but he got dirty on them because it was the Roosters that leaked it to the media. Bennett is a smart man. He knows it's not the Knight's fault if the media speculates.

Johns saying how Bennett would love the Newcastle lifestyle? Isn't this the same guy that moved to Sydney because he could not stand living in a "fishbowl"?

Yeah I'm not saying that I am sure either way (in fact I'm not very sure at all)...just wanted to put it out there before the official announcement is made!

What is he waiting for now if he's supposedly waited for both teams to play? How bout Bennett just hosts an hour long TV special called The Decision and tells us all then. Just get it over with already.

Oh what a coincidence Tinkler and Bennett's wife Trish sat in the same corporate box at Suncorp Stadium last night lol

Just listened to the press conference. When did he say he will announce it after both teams had played? Must have missed that.

f**king massive coup. Well done, Mr. Tinker, and the rest of the hard workers at TSG... making good on lofty promises so soon.
