If not for Super League pushing the game kicking and screaming into the professional sports arena, all our top players would be playing in England or Union. The ARL was locked into a cheap as chips Free To Air (FTA) deal and had thrown in the PTV rights for free. All clubs were locked into a self funded $1.8M salary cap (for the entire club not just the top 25) without the large grants of $2.5M that the (now) NRL gives to each club.

Not at all DJ1 but Super League changed the game forever.

Now it's a business and a business must look after its own interests above all others.

Before Super League there was a more socialist feel to the game, of course clubs have always looked for an advantage over their opposition but now , thanks to Super Leaguie and its supporters it's more ruthless.

What a load of unmitigated rubbish.

Take off your rose coloured glasses grandpa.

Hadley also did a backflip and wanted to broadcast superleague games on radio. when he was labelled a hypocrite he said that his issue with it before was that it wal illegal, once the courts decided that it was legal he was happy with it

Hadley pfffttt!

One of the biggest hypocrytes during the whole SL episode.

You can read how good of a bloke Ray is in the Sydney Confidential part of the Telegraph today and in the Herald.

If Vautin was such a hero, and if commenting on SuperLeague games was such a burden on him, why'd he do it? Obviously, for the money. The same reason that SuperLeauge kicked off, the same reason that the players signed up and the same reason the game of rugby leage has gone through such a crap time.

Do you work for nothing? I don't blame the fatman for commenting on SL. And I don't really blame the SL players for jumping ship... I just blame News for ripping the game apart just because they couldn't get things there way instantly.

Also, I'll bet that because of the market blowout in the mid to late 90s Rugby League players are probably earning a bit less now than what they would of if salaries kept gradually increasing rather than shooting up high then having to come back down.

Probably the best Hadley episode from around that time was a few years later when he threatened to call matches from a cherry picker or an apartment block overlooking the ground when they took the right off him

is there any real need to talk of this now, after all it was 10 years ago. If you stopped following the game then thats your porogative.

I still love it, it realy didn't bother me and now i'm over it.

get over it.

Why?

SL was a part of the games History, an absolutely HUGE part of it. Why bury our heads in the sand?

I heard a rumour years ago that Blocker Roach refused to stop bagging SL after reconciliation, which is why he disappeared. I note with interest that Fatty and Sterlo had no such qualms. Also, at the time Blocker disappeared, there was a story reported in the papers about Blocker getting into a fight in a pub. Always smelled like a smear to me

At least Ackerman was always a Murdoch yes-man. That quote just makes him look more the hypocrite.
