I ahve to agree with PK.
Being an ex competition swimmer, the rule is there for a reason, to stop swimmers from jumping the gun and getting an unfair advatage on the rest of the field. In other words cheating.
There was nothing that Ian Thorpe did that could be even hinted as cheating, or trying to break first, he simply lost his balance and was disqualified on an technicality.
Same as our cyclist (forget his name, he was only 18 at the time), his foot came out of the pedal and he was disqualified on a technicality, cost us a gold medal.
They should revert back to the 2 false start rule with all sports, even athletics.
Now we have a situation where the current world champion, record holder and current gold medalist, will not be allowed to compete, just becuase he fell off the blocks.
How stupid is that ?
