Go Titans. I'll be there cheering 'em on over the Broncos.

If I was a multi millionaire I'd then fly up to Sydney and cheer on Parra over the Broncos. But I'm not so the Titans it will be.

Pity both Melbourne and Manly can't be knocked out.

If the Storm hadn't made the GF last year after 8 beat 1 then we would have gone to the AFL system I reckon

I reckon that may happen which will be the death blow to the top 8 McIntyre System. The AFL system is way better.

The AFL system is not way better.

The AFL is just as bad as the NRL if not worse. At least in the NRL system the team who finishes first is 'rewarded' for coming first whereas in the AFL system the minor premiers are 'punished'

Afl system is much better. Top 4 all get a second chance, it's a just reward for finishing higher on the ladder.
I'd be p***ed if parra finished 3rd in the season and got knocked out due to one bad game in week 1

Oh please. They aren't punished, they just don't get as easy a road to a week off as under the Mcintyre system. AFL system is still heaps better.

I would call getting to play the 4th team instead of the 8th team as 'punishment' when comparing the two playoff systems.

Why should the 5th place team getting the easiest game of the week?

I am certain Adelaide Crows are loving the AFL system ... they got to play a crappy 8th placed team, win by 100 without raising a sweat, and then become favourites for their next game because they get more days rest and because the opposition have a slew of injuries caused by a gruelling encounter between two of the best teams in the competition.

The AFL system has just as many flaws as the NRL system.

I dont think the AFL system is better. I dont think its fair that teams 5 and 6 can get a home final over teams 3 and 4. Although each top 4 side is guarenteed of a home final at some stage through out the system.

Personally I think when we introduce 2 more new teams in 2013, we will end up going back to the top 10.

You can call it what you like. That doesn't make it correct.

So how many times has 5th won the AFL premiership under their new system? I'll give you a hint... it's less than 1

The AFL system has just as many flaws as the NRL system.

No, it really doesn't

Ask any NRL club whether they would prefer a definite shot at a week off plus a guaranteed second chance, in exchange for giving up a home final, and I'll bet you not one would turn it down.

Yes the AFL system is better for the 3rd and 4th teams BUT it is a worse system for the 1st and 2nd placed teams.

It is much, much, much more likely that the 1st or 2nd placed teams lose to the 3rd/4th places teams than the 7th/8th placed teams

Hence why the AFL system is just flawed as the NRL

Neither are good.

And I can guarantee if we immediately implemented the AFL system everyone will start bitching about that system too.

I don't necessarily accept that. It's arguable that 1st having a very easy win against 8th followed by a week off can be a significant disadvantage in terms of preparation for a sudden death semi-final against a team that has had two weeks of tough games.

It's also arguable that losing first week is a significant disadvantage to the 1st or 2nd placed teams ... not as much in the AFL system as the NRL system (since they lose all home field advantage in the NRL) but still a disadvantage ... but then again it is less likely that the 1st/2nd placed teams lose in the NRL.

You also stated in a previous comment

So you sort of contradicted yourself

You said having a week off (easier run) can be poor preparation.

Then you say that the AFL system is good - just ask any NRL Club if they would like the Top 4 to guarantee a shot at a week off.

One second you're saying a week off is what makes the NRL system bad and the next you're saying a week off is what makes the AFL system good.
