How many do sydney roosters have? Or that new south Sydney franchise for that matter?

Well we have been trading as the Eastern Suburbs Rugby League Football Club since 1908. Just with a few different marketing names. So we have 13 premierships

Melbourne Storm came into the comp in 1998.

Eastern Suburbs Rugby League Football Club came in in 1908, change their trading name to Sydney City in 1995 and then the Sydney Roosters in 2000.

South Sydney Rabbitohs came into the comp in 1908. No name change there.

Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers came into the comp in 1908 merged to form the West Tigers in 2000.

St George Dragons joined the comp in 1921. They merged with the Illawarra Steelers (who joined the comp in 1982) to form the St George-Illawarra Dragons in 1999.

Canterbury joined the comp in 1935. Other than change of nickname, no change there.

Parramatta Eels joined the comp in 1947. No name change there.

Manly Sea Eagles came into the comp in 1947.Merged with the North Sydney Bears to form the Northern Eagles from 2000 to 2002, before de-merging and reverting to same name in 2003.

Penrith Panthers joined the comp in 1967. No name change there.

Cronulla Sharks joined the comp in 1967. No name change there.

Canberra Raiders joined the comp in 1982. No name change there.

Newcastle Knights joined the comp in 1988. No name change there.

Brisbane Broncos joined the comp in 1988. No name change there.

North Qld Cowboys joined the comp in 1995. No name change there.

NZ Warriors joined the comp in 1995. They changed their name from "Auckland Warriors to New Zealand Warriors" in 2001.

Gold Coast Titans entered the comp in 2007. No name change there.

As such of the other 15 teams in the NRL, of whom 14 pre-date the Melbourne Storm, only 4 have changed their name or permanently merged to create a new team, which disproves what you have said. Thanks for playing.

I think we tried to get known as the Sharks (ie not Cronulla) for a season in early to mid 90s

So Lets get this straight current names unbroken run

Sydney roosters 2000
South Sydney Rabbitohs 2002
St merge 1999
Manly sea eagles 2003
Wests tigers 1999
Canterbury Bankstown bulldogs 2010

You forget 'Sydney bulldogs' and 'bulldogs'

I like your passion but clearly the 'Melbourne storm' name has been been ongoing in this competition for longer than the names of the teams I have mentioned above.

Parramatta eels should be the traditional club we are all proud of. They have been unchanged since 1947
