If we lost Moses

You never know by signing the big four might end up forcing a few players out of the club like Nofo and might restrict our ability to actually fix a few spots in our roster.

Its all about getting the right balance, no use having the spine in the history of the game if you other 14 players are plodders. Look at most sides they usually have a standout 6 or 7 and the other player is a foil. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but the way I see it I would be willing to let say the no7 walk in order to buy a classy backrower.

Our club is being forced to possibly spend a lot of money on players who essentially are still on P plates. Don't get me wrong is there was no salary cap and we had a budget like a few other clubs I would love to sign the 4, but we have to try and cover ALL bases with our cap and budget

For me Teddy and Woods are musts, the 6 and 7 would be great but would settle for one of them

1000% agree with you SC - and to prevent this crap going on again with his next contract, I would rather sign Brookes over Moses.

Im with you Perth Tiger.
We have two priorities:

1. Sign as many of the big four without losing other players as we can
2. Stagger the terms so we arent just in this same situation again in three years......

I would have been looking at this:

Woods 4yrs; Teddy 5yrs; Moses 3yrs and Brookes 1.

5 years way too many for Teddy. I'd like 4 for woods and Moses, 3 teddy and 2 brooks

Teddy's greatest asset at present is his speed, now the big question is, will his game suffer as his speeds drops a fraction. I look at the 77kg superman Hogo, he actually got better with age and I have no doubt Teddy could do the same. As for his contract, 3 years is now as long as you should offer anyone. There are to many things that can change in a split second.

True, but at this stage of their careers, Tedesco is worth a lot more imo.

Tedesco has about 10 years left in him disregarding injury

Thurston has about 1, maybe 2 years max left in him
I don't suppose there are many Cowboys fans following this discussion, but if there are, would you swap JT for Tedesco, right now, at the same price?

I think I know the answer.

You want to keep the bloke, he is certainly a dynamic player, approaching Rhys Wesser at his very best (2003) so you pay overs. These are the things a club has to do.

That's easy to answer for them because they already have a decent enough fullbck Coote anyway, and shockingly enough lost a huge talent in ponga

If it was for us to swap Tedesco for Thurston I'd say no due to fact we already have 2 competent halves (assuming they are resigned) already on the improve and we virtually have no depth at fullbck. If we lost him it's back to square 1 trying 103039 different guys trying to replace him and it's a pretty valuable position these days

Rhys Wesser was a monster in his day I think people are quick to forget. Anthony minichello too pre back problem days

It's close to a million per year so it's not cheap. Still I'd pay it as well.Thurston gets something like a million a year.

You have to remember though it is all relative to the total cap. Thurston is paid 1 mill in a cap of about 7 mill (not sure the exact amount)

Teddy would be getting just less than 1 mill in a cap that is rumored to be 10 mill. Big difference.

The other factor which we have no idea is what the actual cap value is, with third party payments and for Thurston long term player discounts

Definately not the player you want to lose...

A couple years ago it felt as though the tigers had to keep Moses and Brooks together as a 'package' for the sake of their future. But Brooks is yet to delivery any consistency and certainly isn't in the class of Moses. If Brooks doesn't measure up this year he is one to cut from your roster. Use some of the extra cash to secure Moses.

Penrith might experience something similar this year with Martin and Cleary. Both young halves with bright futures but neither have played a full year of football. We don't really know yet what they are made of.

Here is the rub Fangs -

Moses has at least two contracts left - this one and another.

I honestly feel that if we pay him good coin again this time, we are just going to be in the same boat with him again for the next contract. He seems like the guy thats always going to "test himself on the open market...."

You know what you get with Brookes.

The question needs to be not who is going to perform the best for this contract, but how much are they both going to be worth for the one after.

Keeping in mind that Teddy looks like hes going to be the best fullback in the game as well.

I think the days of having outstanding spine players in all positions are gone and a part of me thinks thats why we are downplaying the hooker role.

1. Keep Teddy at all costs.....(he seems like a contented guy at the Tigers)
2.Keep Moses, but if he gets a heap more elsewhere let him go.
3.Hillbilly wont leave as all he knows is postcode 2040.....plus hes skipper here....wont be if he joins another club
4. Brookes will be offered x amount....Dont really care weather he accepts or not...He can be replaced easier.
