If you were CEO how would you handle expansion

Adelaide has a population of 1.3 million people!

Which makes it the second smallest capital city in Australia. And South Australia in total is under 2M people.

Add that to no junior base.

Add that to a small corporate pool of businesses operating there. Where do you get corporate support?

What are the benefits of going to Adelaide. What does it bring to the NRL? Because you can only have so many teams in the competition so it has to have significant benefits putting one in Adelaide and I simply do not see the benefits.

Darwin's population is only 142,300
Hobart's population is only 221,000
Canberra's population is only 381,500

Yeah the population of South Australia is 1,677,000. That's not a bad thing.

Add that to no junior base.

The quickest way to get a junior base is to have a team there so people in that city are interested in the sport, and then more people will play it.

Add that to a small corporate pool of businesses operating there. Where do you get corporate support?

They would find enough corporate support from a city that large.

What are the benefits of going to Adelaide. What does it bring to the NRL? Because you can only have so many teams in the competition so it has to have significant benefits putting one in Adelaide and I simply do not see the benefits.

The benefits are spreading the game into another large city/market, which makes the game stronger.

The NRL are holding the game back because of their fear of failure.

Even if they are not relocations from Sydney, a Perth team and an Adelaide team should be in the NRL soon. They should be the first 2 new teams, if they are not relocations from Sydney. Perth already has a fine rectangular stadium, and so does Adelaide. Then some time after that (maybe 5 years) a Wellington team and a Christchurch team should join the NRL.

Adelaide are well behind and it's not particularly close. It is so Afl centric would almost be a waste of time and money

So is Melbourne, but they aren't a waste of time. So many national comps include Perth and Adelaide for good reason.

No,worse than Perth or melbourne. There is a stack load of work to do in Adelaide, they are where Perth was around 2002, but some good signs with the new nrlhq there and hopefully the nrl will one day get serious about funding these development states properly, well they will if they stop spending all their money on clubs and shiny digital things!

Every single professional sport includes a Perth team, except nrl lol shows how backwards our sport is.

Also the excuse I get from the Perth 720 ABC when I raise the non coverage of RL in the ABC Perth NEWS or sports shows,no team in Perth no cover, Rugby has one (though for how long I,m not sure)
Though I hate the name the Pirates are trying hard to make an impression int the NSWRL comp good luck to them

When we had a team we had two dedicated RL journos on the papers and good coverage. Wildcats, Force and Glory get reasonable coverage here so not like its all AFL only.

Would the NRL be better serviced creating and resourcing a NSW/Qlnd cup level competition in NZ rather than adding more NZ teams to Australian comps?

Agree this this. If we're insisting on keeping the NSW + QLD Cup structure, there should also be an NZ Cup. NZRL should be funded by the NRL at least as much as NSW and QLD are, since they are a major source of players

There are a lot of good ideas for how 2nd tier should be handled but I expect the reality will be far less ambitious.

Right now I'm not sure where a NRL team could really flourish and improve the game. Perth seems quite far off although it seems they'd support it. I don't think I'd go with a smaller region such as Central Coast, Wollongong (And I'm from there). These are more blue collar communities who don't have the money to support a team by themselves. I know many Wollongong footy fans who balk at 25 dollar tickets at WIN Stadium.

I do think a second Brisbane team would be risky. Maybe someone else more educated on Brisbane itself could fill us in but a Brisbane side competing with another Brisbane side could just potentially split the existing Broncos fan base instead of bringing more people in.

If that was a genuine problem and hindrance to having the correct number of teams in Brisbane (which is at least 2) then I would relocate the Broncos (to Perth maybe or better yet PNG) and bring in 2 brand new Brisbane teams.

I suspect the reality is that at least 50% of NRL fans in Brisbane support another NRL team and therefore probably hate the Broncos. Those fans would be who the new Brisbane team would get attending as they would start out going just to be anti Broncos.

Yeah but there should be an NRL presence in the Illawarra and Central Coast. St George Illawarra should be playing half of their home games in Wollongong (if they don't already), and I think Manly should be playing half of their home games in Gosford and take over the Central Coast junior district area (and call themselves Manly-Central Coast Sea Eagles) but it looks like the Roosters may have beaten them too it.

1 team in Brisbane is fine for now. Suncorp Stadium is right in the city, so it's fairly easy to get to if you live anywhere in Brisbane. It's not like they are selling the stadium out much. The Broncos serve Brisbane well. I'd rather bring in Perth and Adelaide, who don't have an NRL team yet - I want the comp and sport to become a true national sport! Most of those rugby league fans who live in Brisbane and don't support the Broncos would already have an NRL team.

I would have Wellington before Adelaide.
I would have another QLD team before Wellington, just.
My order of preference would be, Perth, Qld, Wellington, Adelaide and Central coast.
To upset the Roosters fans i would relocate them to the Central Coast.

NZ Warriors should play a quarter of their homes games in Christchurch and a quarter of their home games in Wellington.
