If you were the head of International Rugby League and had $ 500, 000
just laying around in your office  ....well what you would spend it on in the area of International footy?

Grassroot developments?

Emerging Nations?

Coaching Clinics?

Advertisement and Promotion of International Rugby League?

Development of game in Pacific?

just would like to see your opinions.....

Development of game in Europe?

I'd fairly divide it by the worthy emerging nations, ensuring the money went towards developing the game in the emerging nation through coaching and general awareness clinics.

$500,000 can go a damn long way!!!!

Funding tours and their domestic competitions.

Improving coaching quality and providing quality equipment.

Improving fitness by insuring all nations have access to top gym facilities and utilise them.

Supporting the Euro and Pacific Cups.

If I were the head of the RLIF.....

1) Things would be a lot better

2) I'd still be constrained by the egos of the club administrators.

I would by myself a house....get friendly with the ARL......set myself up in a nice hotel every time there was an IRLF "Meeting".

Jet around the world to "Work on expansion". Have an e-mail address and phone number that dosent work so no one can get in contact with me to easily.

I'd be on holiday 6 months of the year. Ofcourse...this is the holiday I'd take when Im not flying around the world on the IRLF funds....if you know what I mean. ;-)

I'd update the rule book when ever the ARL found a gaping hole in it...but I'd be damned if Im going to write out any rules that arent brought up a few days before a Test match.

Yeah....Im certainly the man for the job. 8)

500,000 is f**k all on this scale, so i'll say hypothetically 500,000,000 ok?
In which case I would set up a massive network of juniors progams and clubs all over Australia and key nations like the US, France (they would be great), Germany (why not?) etc and try get the ball rolling. Then I would introduce new eligability laws for League that would be akin to union (but only for the big 3) and would make all the clubs signing contracts meaning they HAD to release players if they were selected for an international, disregardless of how many hospital appointments they had booked in the off season and I would cut the ticket prices for all matches (domestic and international) to about 1/5th of what they currently are and have cheap (but good) food and other stuff at the stadium in the hope to get people motivated to start turning out for matches in big numbers again!

I'd make more than $500 k,

I'd go around the world and promote the hell out of League everywhere. Whether it'll be Japan, Russia, China, Singapore or Greece I'd do it. I'll go on a mission and start off the grassroots in Australia.

Bring in more netrual refs, and Australia better not make any excuses if they lose this test. I remember when they lost to GB in 2001, and blamed the ref for his 10m but I mean they did play poorly in that game and theres no excuses. Glen Black or some netrual ref should be in charge this Saturday and both sides should cop it on the chin, and we'll what happens after the match.

Appoint top-notch development officers in Russia, Lebanon and France.

But I'd still need a budget for them as that $500,000 would only cover salaries for 3-5 years. #-o

So I'd focus everything on France. A fourth nation to add to the Tri-series and challenge would make a hell of a difference and pump a lot more money into the coffers to spend as I initially thought.

Though the crack and whores option is a bit of a goer too 8)

Bringing France up to standard has to be a priority and would do a world of good.

Roll on 2006 and Perigan.

Play more matches against France and call it the Aubert/Churchill trophy. But before that improve League in France and tell the Union d*kheads the leave their juniors alone.

If I was the head of International Rugby League, I would institute a second tier global championship along the lines of the recent Pacific Rim cup. To enter, countries must have at least four senior teams or 80 registered players, who are then registered onto an international database. No more Tonie Carrolls - your international status is fixed and non-transferrable.

I would lobby for rugby league to be introduced as a sport for high schools, where hopefully interest in league would grow. Footballs, manuals, goal posts, whistles (everyone forgets about the referees!) and videos would all be donated.

I think it is important that rugby league strives to portray itself as a clean, safe sport, despite the obvious physicality of the game - just look at the 1970s and see how far we have come!

Realistically we have no chance of becoming the number one sport in a country such as the United States or China. What we should strive to do is to carve out a niche market. Instead of the divide and conquer analogy that I've heard in the past.

Countries such as Brazil and Germany could become great league nations, if only someone gave them a chance. Just look at Russia.

I Think most Poeple would agree that France and Russia have the most potential to be competitive in the International Scene. Lebanon to a lesser degree. This is where I think we should channel funds for developing the International game.
