I don't think coming 12th in year 2 was part of the plan, but I don't think winning the title was either. It was always about year 3.

We will have a side next year capable of being in the top 2. Unfortunately it looks like this potential won't be met because of an inept board.

So you are saying that they can't be in the top 2 with a different coach?

I dont think we'll be in the top 2 next year regardless of who the coach is. We'll be pushing for the top 8 if we're lucky.

I just hope that I'm wrong and that Jimbo's top 2 prediction is closer to the mark.

Jimbo, I fail to see how the board has taken players such as Stevens, Beattie and Peachey from SoO players - which they were under Lang - to not even contenders for Origin. If the coach is not responsible for players reaching thier potential what is he responsible for?

I am not saying the board is blameless, but these players have performed for a while, yet play crap under Anderson, this I do not understand, but cannot see how it is the board. I love Lang, but I am not asking for him back, he is the only recent comparsion.

I certainly do not forget Lang had us in the Finals most years and Anderson is yet to improve the teams finishing season position, from the team he was left. Does one always have to go back to go forward?

Just an opinion.
Go the Sharks

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

On paper they're a top 2 side, but since they've been tailored to Anderson's methods, another coach would have trouble get the same results from them all.

I'd suggest everyone emails the dirty s**g and gives her a good pasting for her scurrilous and baseless "reporting".

She's a joke. I'd also encourage Danny Weidler (her rival GERM) to serve it up to her on Sunday.

What a stupid woman. She belongs more on Beauty and the Beast whining that the man (men?) in her life dont do enough chores around the house.

She's like Phil Gould - big media profiles but no one likes either of them.
you arent the merkin i thought u were

any one that hates that wicked wicked woman cant be all bad

Excellent! Its good to see the truth float to the top!

As for Rebecca Wilson and her crap, any chance of an email address so I can give her my opinions of her column and its sh*t.

Another thing I'd like to draw to your attention, I read both papers and always read the 'Names That Just Cant Be Revealled' section of Wilson's column. It contains information about mainly league's stars activities off the field that are inappropriate (for her!), and the names cant be revealled for legal purposes. I seriously doubt her credibility and the truth in that section of the column, anyone else feel the same? Of course, nothing can be done about it as the names cannot be revealled. Free for her to spin her bullsh*t.

On sunday dood go to ure newsagent and look through the Sunday Telecrud and on the page she speaks her crap it has her email addy at the top. Just get in the paper shop DONT BUY THE PAPER THOUGH

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
So if Wayne Bennet, Sticky, Hagan, Gould, Elliot etc etc took over Penrith(a top two team) that they would no longer be a top two team.
Seriously???!!!

Mr Angry Stevo was injured, Peachey has noone to blame but himself (just watch the Canberra game again) and Beattie doesn't get on with Bennet.

You forgot to mention Bailey.

You must be joking! Talk about looking at the world through rose-coloured glasses!

We don't have a hooker. Ball distribution from dummy-half will continue to be rubbish.
We don't have a 5/8. Ball distribution to the outside backs will continue to be rubbish.
We don't have a forward who can offload. Stevo & Beatts try but drop the ball 2 out of 3 times. So it will be: hit it up for 5 tackles & kick. Maybe Lomu can offload, but he spent so little time on the field with Easts it was hard to tell.
We have very few players who know how to tackle and will put themselves on the line.

We'll be very lucky to come 8th.

Do you think all the other teams are just going to fall over when they see Vagana in our side? Look at the what the other sides have on paper and who do you think we are a sure-fire thing to beat? Maybe Souths. Maybe Saints. Maybe Manly. But all "maybes"
Do you honestly, on paper, rate us against: Penrith, Easts, Warriors, Newcastle, Canberra? We won't win a game against these clubs- we don't have the TEAM to do it. Enthusiastic players yes. But a TEAM? No.

BTW: It is possible to get the players we've got to develop those skills. And it's possible to develop the TEAM. We just need a coach who can make it happen. Not sure if SR can do this. But we've already seen what CA is capable of.

I think it would be fantastic if we made the final eight next year. But who knows what can happen? If the team gets off to a great start anything could be possible.

I'd been giving Ando a big tick for luring Vagana to the club.(maybe he has inadvertantly) but the bit about Vagana not even met Ando yet has me stuffed.
Who is buying the players at this club,Sludge,Ando or the board? I thought part of Ando's deal was he selected the players to come here.
I've heard a rumour(on one of the forums) Ando didnt buy Merrit and now Vagana may(not sure still) fall into this category.
Maybe Ando isnt the dictator some people think he is but I've got to wonder if one side knows what the other is doing?
Its not a good situation if Ando's not buying the players and the board are buying the players.
Who got Lomu? I'd say Russo was an Ando special but now I'm wondering?

Foz - just because Anderson hasn't met Vagana doesn't mean that he didn't say to whoever is in charge of recruitment (Steve Rogers, I'd presume, being CEO) that he wanted him in the team.

My understanding of it would be that Anderson would make mention of the players he wanted, and then Rogers and perhaps Theo Burgess would go about signing those players. I doubt many if any coaches are actually involved with the signing process.

Yea ....Ando would have a say, but it's definitely Sludge who is doing the hard yards.

I know what your saying Z but if I was coach I'd want to meet the player before he signs.
One example(maybe not good)was Liverpool(English Soccer Club)had a guy named Lee Bowyer ready to sign.He is a very talented soccer player but the manager met him and decided he was not the type of player LFC wanted to sign. This Bowyer is a bit of a hot head and I agree totally with the manager's decision not to sign him. From the meeting the manager made this decision.(I wont go into Bowyers record but just lets say trouble follows him).
Might be a respect thing but if some guy was coming to Cronulla and I was coach I'd sure as hell like to meet him before he signed. He could be the best footballer in the world but if he's an a***hole I sure as hell dont wont him in a sharks jersey.
The CEO or board dont have to have him as part of the team each week.

You make some pretty good points there. I guess a coach would do a reasonable bit of research though, get some references and what not.

Anderson signed Danny Nutley based on the good work he received from Tawera Nikau.

I find it very hard to believe they haven't met, especially in negotiations when most of that went on BEFORE the anti tampering deadline.
