I'm lamenting the lapse of...

1. The use of 'livewire' and 'transmission' in song lyrics. Renowned artists like David Bowie, Motley Crue, ACDC and Joy Division all belted out songs that imported these strange technology-based terms into music lexicon.

2. Continuing on this topic- people singing about technology as the cause of society's impending doom. Remember Styx- Mr Roboto, ACDC- Who made who??? Both used parody and gawky refrences to robots.

3. Elvis Costello's glasses. I know he's still around but there are few other contemporary singers that would brazenly appear like that.

4. Film Clips depicting 'impromptu' street concerts. My favourite was the 'Long way to the Top' where ACDC were riding around and playing from the the back of an open-truck. THis tradition was carried on by artists like Bon Jovi, Papa Roach and Avrill who has since tainted the style forever after using it in skater boy.

5. Footballers bringing out songs (cheesy, drunken, nonsensical it doesn't matter). Jason Martin set the bench mark with his fleeting pop success and Alfie and the Bris Boys were a suprise packet with their song about the Broncos. It amazes me that other footballers have not delved into this industry- come on boys its been almost ten years and the efforts of these trailblazers have been become lost on a younger audience!
Lack of talent should not be a hinderance- The Broncos song was able to sky rocket up the national charts based on QLD sales alone. Imagine if Canberra released a song- Ben Cross on Trangle, Jason Smith in vocals and Raider 69 on beat box- it would be sh*thouse no doubt but supporters from Canberra would all pre-order it and ensure that the song gets some shelf-life.

6. Quality music venues- 1. The Sandringham, 2. Eastern Creek, 3. Miranda Westfields. All very different places-
The Sando- a great local that has basically fallen into disuse because of neighbours whinging about the noise.
Eastern Creek- ok not exactly a music venue and this place is more synonymous with rev-heads but there was a time when it staged massive concerts.
Miranda Westfields- maybe Shakira hasnt come out recently- I'm out of the loop on this one but i still go there to do my grocery shopping and in the hope that I might see Holly Valance or Blue singing to the masses next to an elevator.

7. An evalngelical rapper. Not creed, no we're talking about praying every day, MC Hammer style.

8. Humming- as used in Crash Test Dummies Song

9. Random exerts in other languages- Psycho Killer- it was always good if you could effortlessly move english and french and japanese and spanish all in the one song.

10. Spelling out words in the song- the famous one R-E-S-P-E-C-T...and I always managed to f**k it up.

11. Non self-deprecating songs- why do people have to admit to being a creep or a teenage dirtbag- as painful as the momeory of that song is? There was a time when you could turn it on the other person and write a song like 'I hate everything about you'.- It was emotional stuff.

12. Amps that go up to 11...or 12.

7. The Pragmatics, for one, are a good group. I have one of their CD's, they're really good and what makes it funnier is that they both sound like Sleek the Elite from 'Fat Pizza'!
