Important - Brisbane!

Ok this is aimed at all these threads about Brisbane being under strength yadda yadda yadda

I know people are really starting to get excited and I’m one of them but we still do need to put behind us the injuries and focus solely on winning this game be it against a full strength Broncos side or a reserve grade Broncos Side

Like the last few weeks have been for the JV it would seem yet again this week is no different and yet again this week will be one of the JV most important games they play to determine on how we will fare at seasons end.

We all know what happened before when Brisbane had a bunch of no name players and yes we are a different side now but we still cannot think that Brisbane of all clubs will be walk overs

I do think this game is worth 4pts and not 2pts given the for and against advantage we have over the other sides and given that the Broncos are coming 3rd this really is going to be a good test no matter the strength of the Broncos

Brisbane will still have the likes of Webb, Petro and co up forward and that’s still a bloody good forward pack one that would probably still be better than ours, in the backs they have Hunt, Minto and Kelly all who have the ability to cause more than there fair share of problems and then of course they have the dreaded home ground advantage

Lastly Bennett will have them fired up because now they have fallen behind from the top 2 sides, something in which they have worked very hard to do. They before last round had won 6 in a row and well they won't want to loose too much momentum before the finals let alone 2 matches in a row

If we play like we did against the Bulldogs then I think we will win and we could win by some margin but if we come out like we did against the Eels then it could be a very different story and could work against us in more ways than one

I don't want to be a party pooper and yes I think we can win but its still important that we realise that we are playing a side who is coming 3rd, a side that has had injury problems all year (they have been with out Tallis, Webcke, Lockyer, Civ, Berrigan and co before) and have still been able to win

No matter what side the Broncos name on the weekend they will still be classed as favourites and they deserve to but I will still be cheering my side on and praying that they cause a big upset and put more than just 1 foot into the finals door something which we haven’t felt for a long time now ;-)

For sure MT. Just because a few guys are missing doesnt make this game any easier. Im sure the boys wont look at it that way either, i think they'll be fired up big time.

Triple Broncos blow
August 16, 2004

BRISBANE Broncos could be scratching to put together a side for Saturday's with West Tigers at Suncorp Stadium.

Prop Shane Webcke (calf) is almost certain to miss the game while five-eighth Darren Lockyer (rib cartilage) and centre Shaun Berrigan are both extremely doubtful. All three were injured in yesterday's 46-18 loss to the Bulldogs, leaving Brisbane extremely shorthanded for Saturday's game.

The Broncos are likely to recall former Origin player Ben Ikin and look to their Queensland Cup feeder club, Toowoomba, to supply them with replacement players.

While the Tigers are fighting for a spot in the top eight, the Broncos have the luxury of being able to afford a loss with a top four spot already locked away.

Brisbane skipper Gorden Tallis said the team will learn a lot from yesterday's game, especially around marker defence where the Bulldogs exploited them badly.

Winger Craig Frawley has been ruled out of playing this weekend while youngster David Stagg is still a month or so away from returning from a high ankle sprain.

As I've said on a couple of other threads this is a real danger match - even if we lose we need the boys to give it a real shot.

Just because the Boncos are missing a few don't mean nowt.

For sure. I am not liking the media building us up either. I much prefer to see the tigers written off as the underdogs by the so-called experts. I think the tiges can win, as long as they play like it's the GF (again). Like the rest of you, I'll be cheering on the tigers on Saturday, and praying hard for a win. Go you tigers!

well said MT :) the boys will lift regardless of their squad but lets hope its understrength anyway! :D we are a much better team now then we were during the "baby bronco" disaster

Agreed. Any team the Broncos field will be dangerous. But what better time to be playing them in Brisbane with no Lockyer, Webcke, Berrigan, & possibly Tallis (was he put on report for a high shot?).

It's almost too good to be true.
*Teams around us are stumbling (Knights, Sharks, Raiders)
*Broncos are coming off argueably their toughest game all year
*We have been freshened courtesy of a timely bye in the middle of a winning streak.

This game presents us with a golden opportunity. Win it & we probably clinch a finals berth & we can then look to make a play for sixth spot & a probable double chance in the finals.

I am cautious but quietly confident. The good thing is that even if we lose we still have a very good chance of winning one if not both of our last two games.

Gus22 spot on mate this as I said above really is a 4pt match for us because of our for and against compared to the othersides (they would have to remain undefeated for the rest of the year to knock us out of the finals)
