Bird really stepped up today in Noddys absence. He isnt the first player to play far better at our club when Noddy is out injured either.

Bird will keep his spot, any talk of Kent taking his place is silly, Kent may well haved earned himself a number 17 jumper though for a few weeks.

The ref also had problems with calling tackled. Sullivan got penalised when he clearly wasnt tackled, Id imagine we would have threatened for a try if that was allowed. And then when Newcastle had the same call when they scored in first half it wasnt called tackled and they got away with it :x

Well his one miss led to a try. & it was a miss typical of his turnstyle of old.
His passing game was..........lucky, but good how it turned out.
His defense, whilst only missing one, was not up to scratch for mine.
He needs to grab Jason Kent & say mate, show me how you read the play so well, move up so well & cut the play of so well.
His kick chase was average.

Rate birds game.....7/10

A fair call. Of course, one of Hilder's 2 misses also led to a try. There is obvious improvement to be had from both... but its a good start to build on.

having said that on Greg Bird, look at the size difference between him & kent.
Sorry but jason kent is twice the footballer at 5/8 that Bird will ever be.
Kents laterlal movement lookedin fast motion. he was making tackles & then appearing on the wing to make the next tackle. I think he must be flash Gordon.

The job of the coach is to identify & find solutions to problems.

Problem & player to address problem
General play kicking Kent
centres lack of ball Kent
poor centre feild defense Kent

the selection is default anyway, Bird is gone for that tackle he had his hand between the legs of Carmont. 2 weeks.

Blackie, you seem to have felt our general play kicking was fantastic today....you must be easily pleased.

Sullys kicking game was fantastic, particulary the short attack kicks.

But the 2nd half with Kent kicking alot really dropped off, he was not assisted by a poor kick chase, however his 3 kicks straight into the arms of gidley which led to long range breaks were crucial.

Significantly we did not force one drop out repeat set when kent took over the role of attacking kicker in the 2nd half.

You know I have not been a huge fan of bird at 5/8,m i see him more as a backrower, but I recked at this stage on form shown, he is a far better option than Kent, I'm genuinely perplexed that you appear serious in your arguement for Kent to start at 6.

Actually none of his kicks went to Gidley.
every kick went exactly where the coach would have wanted.
Only one problem was teh grubber that kidley got a foot too. But that happens to even the best when trying to push the grubber through the legs.
Significantly, we only got into position 4 times to get repeat sets.
& I believe the reason we didn't get repeats sets is because Kidley read them so well. He was way out of "normal" position.
kents kicks were with good length, inch perfect in the placement & getting better with each kick.

Obvious problem is kick chase.
Kent will start at 6 because he is a better 6 than Bird.

Bird is a 6 not a 13 though. Kent is a 1 not a 6.

6. Kent
13. Bird

But that is after Bird gets back from his holiday

Hate to say it ut I agree with Blacky.

Can't understand his continuous digs at Noddy but I'd feel a lot happier with Kent at 5/8 then Bird.

But I really think 2nd row is where our biggest problems are.

hhhmmm I thought Ice was fantastic today.
You dont like him much PJ. He threw a couple of scary hits on today. He hurts!
John Kerry looked like a guy who just got passed for promotion[/dig at sharks]

Speaking of hurting, did anybody else see Beatties first 4 tackles?
The looks of horror on the Knights faces as they got up looking for their wind was just beautiful.

They were sullivans kicks not Kents.
kent had only one attempt for repeat set.

You'll need to have about another ten cups of coffee if want to catch me out.
Keep up.

On the contrary when he was in the lower grades he was one of my faves.

I almost cried when he got his first knee injury and was extremely disapointed for him with the next.

I was also very sad a couple of years ago whne it looked like he may leave for Newcastle.

Last year my affection for him slipped a bit. His hands had been letting him down but he improving there. But one of his attempted passes in the first half was poorly thought out and went to the opposition when we were on the attack and then he did the same thing not long after, though we were lucky to keep hold of them.

But you named one, others played in that position.

I think an area we lack players is a dominating 2nd rower and if there was one available I'd swap Isemonger for them. But I'd much rather lose Bickerstaff.

Besides Blacky, even if I didn't like him we are allowed players we don't like aren't we?

I mean last year you seemed to have 17 each week and this year a regular 3 or 4 though you are trying to work Vagana in as well :D

yeah but I'm not selling any.
I criticise them to the point of PL'ing them.
But some here just want to sell the whole garage at times. Not aimed at you.

Our last play options to me were avg once again this week. In general they were ok but from the point of view of attack nothing was in it, EVERY kick in their half was a grubber, with the wind that was about why wasnt a bomb attempted or any other form of kick?
