Can anyone here help me with the names of indigenous players in our team including any arriving in 2014. I was having a debate with a mate of mine today and he come up with a left field idea of every team having a minimum 5 indigenous players contracted to each club. Good idea or not?

I don't think a quota like that is a good idea, rugby league has never had a problem preventing indigenous players from playing top grade. If you're good enough anyone can make it.

Our players for 2014 are Joel Thompson, Dylan Farrell, Craig Garvey. Evander Cummins is another but he's probably leaving

I'm a dick I was adamant we only had Cummins. Didn't realise Garvey was, he certainly goes alright.

Quota's are not my favorite way of advancing causes - however important. As an immigrant to Australia (about 25 years now) I have actually being very impressed with how much rugby league has done for indigenous players and causes in that time. Obviously I would suspect more should be, and needs to be, done.

It would be great to get feedback from Indigenous posters into how the rugby league community (and specifically St George ) can do more to help.

Nah crap idea, there is no point to it, its not like Sth Africa, when they rejoined the world, they had to have a minimum number of black Sth African players in their squads...

I am just throwing the idea out there. I'm a bit of a ideas person and we do have indigenous rounds, women in league etc..

Sorry mate not a fan...If you're good enough then it shouldn't matter what ethnicity you are. A good idea would be to promote equality and not focus on the colour of someone's skin to make a team

I live in Arnhem Land and believe me when I tell you, these guys need to (and are more than capable of) making teams through their own talent and application. Introducing welfare into sport would be an unbelievably bad idea. It hasn't worked in any other part of society. Why ruin sport as well.

I would have thought so too. For roughly 3% of the population, indigenous sportspeople are well represented, especially in Rugby League. To suggest that a leg up is needed is a little condenscending.

They wer'nt indigenous but OT do you remember the Toga brothers Aposi and Inosi........great players

Yes I do Blood Shot. Aposi being the bigger of the two and a regular first grader. Inosi mainly played reserve grade, but I think he did get a few runs in first grade after Aposi tragically passed away. Almost unbelievable to think even back then, that Aposi died of tetanus toxicity. I can still picture them together, always had smiles on their dials.

Yes, they were crowd favourites. Apisai trod on seashells in their native Fiji. Now there's a neighbouring country that has given our game many fine players... but that's another topic.

Pretty much what I was thinking mate. To create a quota would seriously devalue the accomplishments of those who make it on their own sweat.
