I didn't see this view, guilty as charged, he won't be playing next week.
Ref's have a habit of getting in the way of players because they want to see the touch down etc.
To stop this is for the ref to get out of the way and let the bunker handle everything...but we don't want that as it's used too much as it is.

I don't think there was any malice suggested, but it happened and he will be penalised, when I first saw it, I thought it was the Manly player.
Remember when Blocker patted a ref's head and it cost him (and us) a grandfinal (I think it was) as he was suspended?

What cost us severely by losing the most intimidating prop in the game for the entire ‘88 finals series incl GF was Blocker knocking out Chris Mortimer in playoff for 5th spot vs panthers.I was at the game at parramatta stadium.Had blocker not missed the GF I’ve no doubt we would’ve won.The patting of the head was at brook vale oval.I was there behind the southern goalposts very close to where it happened.Geez they were the days. That fabulous Balmain team of mid to late 80’s should’ve won 2 comps.

Lucky I was backpacking around Europe during ‘89 GF otherwise I would’ve been quite distraught. It was bad enough going to ‘88 GF at sports stadium(now Allianz) & seeing the grubby dogs taking out the most dominant player during the finals Hanley in the 1st half & in addition to missing our fearsome standover man Blocker it became a very difficult task to win the GF.

And we eventually hired the bloke who took out Hanley as our coach, blasphemy. Hahaha
