Shame for Hunt and Vea...however it might save Pricey the headache re starting props - in my opinion it should have been Merrin even last year and he's now a certain starter barring injury. Miller, Au Mau, Latimore to battle it out for two prop bench spots.

Dragons Injury Update
13/02/2012 2:01:25 PM
St George Illawarra Dragons duo Dan Hunt and Atelea Vea will both be sidelined for several weeks following the results of their respective scans on Monday.

Both Dragons players sustained their respective injuries during the Club’s 18-12 trial loss to the North Queensland Cowboys at nib Stadium, Perth on Saturday.

Dragons prop Dan Hunt is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after scans revealed he had suffered rib damage in the defeat while fellow prop Atelea Vea has been ruled-out for four weeks with a strained medial ligament in his knee.

Furthermore, Dragons captain Ben Hornby (thigh), Dean Young (knee) and Chase Stanley (knee) will all be reassessed this week with respect to potentially taking the field for the first time in 2012 and partake in the annual Charity Shield against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Saturday.

It's been a tough start to the year for a number of teams. Losing two props early is nasty. Still it could be worse (e.g. Warriors) and we have plenty of good props. As a matter of interest, did Young have surgery in the off season or is it the "same old, same old"?

I hope so. Trial results are bordering on meaningless but I don't really want to start the season 0-3. It's a very tough opening month for the Dragons.

hardbaby, i think its a hard season all round. There arent too many gimme games.

I wouldn't be surprised if we started 0-3, but i would be surprised if we started 3-0. Its going to be one of those seasons.

I agree with this in theory, but 0-3 would be unacceptable. I don't believe we have suitably replaced the calibre of player we have lost, but the team should still be highly competitive.

0-3 would be a disaster on so many levels. None more so than for price. That much pressure on him early would be hard to recover from IMO.

Knights will be tough but best to get them early. The boys should be right up for this one and would want to give it to Bennett. Dogs should be beaten. They haven't beaten us in 5 years and I think we should have their measure. Tigers at kogarah... Well anything can happen!! What a season we are in for!!

Do we have a good strength and conditioning coach to replace Hickmans one game already 2 or 3 injuries.

A bit premature to blame a couple of injuries on the Hickmans departure.

Hunt injured himself in the warm up whilst under Hickmans care.

And Vea is a new recruit, has no previous history under Hickmans.

FFS give the new season time to unfold before sticking the knife in!

Is the Tigers game confirmed for KJO?
My iPhone app still has the venue blank for our home games.

St George Illawarra Dragons Head of Athletic Performance Nathan Pickworth has provided the following update on Dragons duo Corey Norman and Tyson Frizell.

Frizell and Norman were both unable to finish the game.

"Corey Norman has a suspected cheekbone fracture and will go for scans and a specialist review [on Monday]," Pickworth said.

"Tyson copped a poke in the eye in the first half. It greatly affected his vision to the point where he could not keep playing. However we are optimistic that he will be available for Round 9."
