Dragons hand Matt Lodge an NRL lifeline at his sixth NRL club

Shane Flanagan has turned to the veteran prop after hunting for front-row reinforcements all season.

I read it in hard copy of the paper. It states a "top flight prop" is the Dragons next signing priority.

I'm impressed just reading about the whole club training session that took place last night.

We are a big club - and the mission should be constant right throughout.

I recall saying this five years back when he got him onboard as an assistant to a failing Mary. He needed to come in and start wielding some influence right through the joint then. While, for various reasons, his hands might have been tied, I'm sure a lot of brainstorming was going on back then. Now we are starting to see some of the ideas coming to light.

In reality - I still think all of this is going to take a good number of years, maybe as much as another 5-7 years. We need to get that junior system firing again (like it was 20 years ago). Only then can we reap the rewards.

The leadership structure we've created for the next couple of years will have us in good stead.

All in all, we are on the way to returning to the team that everyone can be proud to be part of !

Penrith have done this a few times and that's why they win through every grade. Same plays, same plan, same mission.

Shane is making all players fight for their spots especially the outside backs. Next season it will be the halves. He has created some better depth in the squad which is great.

Shane will also bring in something new in how they play. It simply is not good enough and with Hunt gone that will make life easier as I feel he ran the show and overruled a lot of the players and possibly the coach.

Dragons last won a comp with Hornby and Soward. Not the flashiest of halves but very effective with the game plan at hand. Shane I feel will do the same with the current halves.

We had a great pack of forwards that help sowie and Ben. If we have a strong pack anything is possible. I pray we have the players to make a f**king big dent in the opposition.

Watching old matches from 2024 is strange bcs I am aware now of Hunt's error rate...how did I miss it at the time? I always knew about the way he runs his support players out of room.

I looked at Bunts try assist highlights from last season, but i was disappointed because it seemed to me that most of them were due to defensive lapses

And I think that the vast majority of players would be able to throw the same or similar passes in the same position.

He was much more threatening back in the day where he was much faster, more robust, more elusive, had better ball skills and had speed off the mark.

And if he’s not going to subject and submit himself to the changing laws of Flanno, he was never going to improve.

What about this week, Flanno said losing two current kangaroos has made the side stronger. Thing is, it could well turn out to be true so no one can challenge it.

Getting rid of our underwhelming marquee has also been met with significant fan acclaim.

Paid out on the stupid muppet big time to deliberately cause offence and get under his skin.

Then after the parting of ways, Gutho gets signed almost immediately. Too convenient isn’t it?

While Bunt didn’t have a club to go to.

There was no payout or anything.

I think it could have been a crafty flanno manoeuvre. Set the knob up.

And there were no tears afterwards, Flanno stomped on his head.

I’ve been in (pre woke) corporate environments and this type of second level thinking was utilised a lot.

Give enough rope, but also enough opportunities. Plan and manoeuvre to whichever outcome manifests. Be ready to go either way.

If Deano wants to be a HC, he’s best to just observe how it’s done properly at this point in time. I’m glad him and Flan gave it to him. It shows the jersey comes first now.

I read some of the reports this morning, Bunt was pretty much solely blamed for the club dipping out of the finals contention in the review and their were obvious questions over his leadership.

They pounded him and he took exception to that as he sees himself as some kind of immortal.

If you want to keep an underperforming player, there’s various ways of raising issues -in a constructive way and trying to be positive, get them to buy into making changes and meeting expectations.

But they just smashed him!

He sulks for weeks and considers his revenge. He could have struck back in many ways but throws Kyle under the bus and tries to embarrass and humiliate him.
Doesn’t even the guts to front flanno etc with his grievances, but takes a cheap low gutted dog shot at a good friend (according to Kyle) and a work colleague.

The zoom call and the club waits for him to seek a release, which he does, and the new era begins.

I think the club had made up its mind he needed to go before the review. If they wanted to , I think they could have held their fire against him at the review, been more nuanced and diplomatic. They knew he had been toying with abandoning ship for a few years. But it wasn’t the straw broke the camels back, it was fully loaded roadtrain!

We got very annoyed at Stefano last year because he kept playing chicken for 6 months. We gave him a final offer and told him to hurry up and make his mind up. When we grabbed him from the eels, he was a kid on minimal salary and there are reports we offered over $500k extra to bring him to WT and when we ask for the love back, hes nowhere to be seen! Some of these players have no shame!

I still wonder why Shane kept Bunt for so long. I guess you were well into finals contention until the twilight of the regular season.

I also watched the extended SGI highlights v storms in Melbourne. The idiot game editors who put this package together missed a lot of the tension at the back end of the game unfortunately.

We all know that clinging desperately to a slim lead against an Uber elite powerhouse marquee gf side was the highlight. They just should have shown the last 5 minutes!!

Right at the end you see Flanno and the brains trust, and that is the happiest you will see Flanno since his gf I think. Pig in s…t stuff, grin from ear to ear.
