FIFA have given Inter victory in the bitter row over Santiago Solari, so the Spaniards must now pay £7m.
The two clubs had agreed to a staggered payment when Ronaldo sealed his switch to Madrid in the summer of 2002.
The deal involved £23m to be paid over three years, plus either Solari in January or an extra £7m cash.
Solari failed to agree terms with Inter, but Real Madrid maintained that the wage offer was purposefully low and refused to hand over the money.
The matter went to FIFA arbitration and Massimo Morattis side was reportedly given the nod this afternoon, although an official statement will only be released next week.
Real will now be forced to pay the remaining £7m, bringing the total money they owe to Inter for the Ronaldo deal to £22.5m.
So far the Spanish giants have only handed over the first instalment of £8.2m since the move.
Considering the financial difficulties that Real are currently experiencing which this week a Spanish newspaper suggested were considerably more serious than at first thought it is rumoured Inter could bid to bring Ronaldo back to the San Siro.
Il Fenomeno admitted that I would always return to Inter now that Hector Cuper has been fired.
It is possible that the Nerazzurri could offer to wipe the slate clean with Real for the £22.4m owed and hand over Ivan Cordoba in exchange for the return of Ronaldo.
