Interesting Observation - The 'Minor' Teams

i think it is interesting that last nights panthers-tigers game has generated more emotion on this forum than almost any game this year

it is interesting because a supposedly 'minor' team, who channel 9 must think noone wants to watch, obviously rated as highly or moreso than some of the top teams going around again, and again, and again

congrats to everyone, especially the neutrals who supported last nights game. if only we could find a way to make channel 9 sit up and smell the daisies

Emotion? Not really.

Just some poor decisions and an "almost" Scott Sattler tackle.

Good to see Wests on a Friday night game though.

Hopefully we will get a couple of more Friday night games this year.

If we can fix up some stupid errors we make at crucial times, we arent very far off being a really good side.

We also had alot of players out last night including Marshall, Senter, Payten, Richards, Buettner and Miles.

We have a tough run coming up but im confident we can do well.

It was great to see a new team on a friday night. I'm deadset sick of seeing the Roosters, Broncos, Panthers, Raiders or Bulldogs on Channel 9.

Ch9 should have a rotation policy in place so that all team get a good go.

Yeah, it was good to see Wests get a Friday night game, although I'm gutted they lost.

Still, with the performance we put up, we may get a few more Channel 9 games this season.

People need variety not just the same 6-8 teams playing one another each Friday night. Last night was a sucess i believe and a good change. I reckon Cowboys need a Channel 9 game for once.

The Raiders have had one game all year... gosh you must get sick of teams quickly, are you now sick of seeing the Tigers on channel 9?

That said, I thought it was great to see them on free-to-air, and I think that last night's game showed a lot of people who wouldn't normally see them that the Tigers are a much better team than some of their results would attest to.

I am sick of the Roosters, Broncos, Panthers, Bulldogs being on C9. And would like new teams to come in to the fray. Wouldn't mind seeing Manly have a run. But if you got Foxtel, you dont really care.

i actually prefer tigers not having friday night games coz i have basketball games from 7:30- 10 pm... meaning i have to listen to radio updates whilst playing lol... but in all seriousness i agree other teams need a go not just the "usuals". We may of lost but i think we earnt respect from other teams and other "minor" teams should get the chance to do that aswell.

Why does Channel 9 broadcast AFL matches? AFL has enough time on Ten and few more games of RL would be really good.

They show AFl for ratings across the country. Fri/Sun RL rates well in NSW/QLD and Fri/Sun AFL rates well in Vic/SA/WA. And besides, FOX has rights to the rest of the NRL matches.

I would have prefered to see the dogs broncos though... watching the tigers was a novelty though but they would have to play better for me to want to see them more often.
I have seen most games the tigers have played on pay tv and cant think of any that would have been worthy of friday night football... and in hindsight if not for the closeness of the game it was not very intense...the panthers could have and should have rapped it up by half time.
The tigers are a team of the future though.

Ten's AFL coverage, which is only part of the overall AFL tv coverage slaughters Ch 9's Rugby League coverage. It's a disgrace and possibly the most pressing issue facing our code. We are getting drowned in blanket AFL coverage and the Storm wont ever reach their potentional if they don't get TV matches in Melbourne.

The next TV contract can't come fast enough.

I really enjoyed seeing the Tigers play on Friday night. They really stepped up to the plate. I want to see more of it. I too am thoroughly sick of Brisbane, Roosters, Bulldogs, Newcastle, Panthers matches. You'd think the NRL comprises 6 clubs and not 15. There isn't much room though, we only have two spots for matches. Friday night and Sunday arvo, both delayed telecasts. AFL have;

Friday night, Saturday arvo and night and Sunday arvo. It was a blessing the NRL/Ch 9 saw fit to schedule the Bulldogs game on Sunday during the day (Otherwise the Bulldogs would possibly burn the stadium down in a riot, this way they are all asleep after a hard night of pillaging and criminal activity the night earlier). So we got to have the Wests v Panthers game instead on Friday night. :p

Looking forward to the match today! GO THE BRONCOS!

Round 11 there's an Eels/Dragons game on Friday night which 9 are televising. I don't think we'll ever see the likes of Manly, Cronulla, Cowboys etc on a Friday night because of course, all that matters are the ratings
