@mickeylane good post mate.

The interesting part for me is how we went for the coaching structure we've got:
An experienced head coach who knows his stuff.
2 experienced assistants (no rookie or youngster in waiting), one dedicated to defense, and how we've seen that evolve over the last month! Another who is known to be an excellent tactician, and we've seen us play an attacking style not seen for 10yrs.

Credit to all 3 gentlemen.

As for the Broncos, they are suffering badly from overpriced players and too many 'big' youngsters up front, the 6 again rule has really hit them hard. They, however, will eventually (and unfortunately) come good, they ha e some really good young backs, just balance in the halves and experienced some forwards.

Coaching is a lost art.

Poor coaches blame the roster/recruiting decisions and want to buy their way out of trouble.
Quality coaches can make players better.

Our team are playing high on energy and emotion at the moment. That is great, but it's also very tiring and hard to maintain for a whole season. I want to see more technical improvement before I get too excited.
tell that to Leicester City season 2016 ! its possible to maintain the rage for a whole season but need a little luck w minimum injuries...I can't see us dropping off too many times this year...we are just a very well-oiled machine...too many great people involved and the players are buying in....

He’s even got Lomax killing it defensively who’d have thunk it?

The difference this season is that we have a better coaching staff and have off-loaded some deadwood. Griffin has recurited well and so, now we have a good mix of youth and experience accross the park. All players in the 17 seem to showing technical improvement in defence and attack each round.

I still predict we will be in the top 4 at seasons end. Dufty, Ramsey, Lomax and Bird all have plenty of room to improve even further. Ravalawa is playing at the top of his game. Hunt and Norm need to continue to steer the team to victory each week however, the big improvement has in in our forward pack where Griffin has been very active with regards to recruitment.

Griffin has build up a squad of forwards who now are tough, willing and skilled. They are doing a great job working for each other and earning the respect of opposition packs. I believe we now have the depth and agression in our squad of forwards that can take care of the rotation required when fatigue and injuries occur.

In the same way that McCullough has transformed the operation of our forward pack, I feel sure McGuire will lift us to another level. I am excited to see this come to fruition.

Brown was too early and not sure that if he coached us later, say after Bennett and instead of Price, he would have had more success. Price and Mary were just useless and the Board agreeing to have them as coaches, particularly Mary for so many years, should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sure Dousty had a lot of say in the decisions in selecting Price and Mary.

If Hook can get us into the finals this year and further improve our standing in the comp next year, then the Board's bad decisions in the past will be somewhat vindicated and hopefully will learn by their mistakes for future contracts.

The Illawarra mafia didn't like Doust, so maybe he didn't want Mary for so long?

I Think Webb has been a crucial signing.

Look I think Webb is doing a good job, but please understand the Board either sets the agenda or approves the agenda/strategy of Executive team. In some corporations, the CEO can be quite powerful and the Board is a there for governance only.

My reading of the Dragons Board is they felt the pressure of long term underperformance and potential revolt and secured a CEO that would implement a new strategy that I believe that had to a large extent defined. As things continue to get better for the Dragons, I believe Webb will have greater control of both the operational and strategic direction of the dragons.

I too blamed recruitment as a big issue over the past couple of years, now we are performing at the high level but with basically the same roster - so perhaps recruitment has been unfairly maligned due to the dope of a coach and the legless board.
