Amid all the dramas another small straw in the wind, seeing as how smoking is now banned near everywhere but your own home they are now going after alcohol.
The WA govt is going after alcohol to get it banned from being advertised before 9 30pm at night, next will be on advertising on Cricket or Football telecasts, given that binge drinking is turning into a serious problem,I think the tumbrels are rolling, in another 3 to 4 years it will join smoking.
The next will be Poker Machines, they are already starting on that as well, remember how the anti Smoking campaign started, and both independent senators are on the record in wanting to get rid of them and the Federal Govt has the power to ban through the external affairs powers.

There is a big push happening to ban Alcohol advertising in sport. The NRL had better be preparing because within 10 years I can see it happening.

As someone who likes the odd beer or three and enjoys playing sport I don't see the issue but I guess the notion of a healthy nation and promoting drinking is somewhat incongruous.

The WA Libs are going even further and are psuhing fast food advertising out of sport. Now to get a Healthways grant youa re nto allowed any links with Fast food. The WA Netball league has had its funding from the WC Eagles stopped becuase the Eagles are sponsored by Hungry Jacks!

I really don't think they can do much about drinking culture itself. They may be able to limit pubs and clubs opening hours but they cannot really do much apart from that. It's illegal to drink in most public places anyway. Advertisements for alcohol have to meet stringent conditions anyway and only promote safe drinking. I was under the impression TV advertisements were limited for a certain time anyway, unless you're a sponsor. I don't think it will get to the point where alcohol will be banned for advertsing in sports telecasts. Unlike smoking, drinking alcohol is not bad for your health if done in moderation.
