Been here, done this... will be embarrassing if he's appointed interim coach twice without getting the head coaching role.

What a bad look for the club and board today... sack coach without being able to name interim... at least the board are showing everyone that they are a massive part of the problem.

All starts tomorrow.

I think the noise around training being cancelled is bull. I'm sure if you go to the training facility at the Uni tomorrow, they will be there.

Will Reid get a jersey and Kyle be dropped (at least to the bench utility role)?

Most importantly here though, and in all fairness to Deano, the playing group as a whole now have to pull their fingers out and start performing.
Apparently the “cancelled training” is all bull - well at least from a negative viewpoint.

I heard Tim Watsford interviewed on 2GB tonight - Monday - about the overall “parting ways” issue.
Around 6pm ish.
He said the plan had always been for the team to spend Friday in camp, prior to the Anzac Day game.
I assume that meant the players would remain in camp for the Friday night.
As such, he said, part of that plan was to give the players the day off on Tuesday.
So yes, training had been “cancelled” for Tuesday, but due to the planned camp.

Interesting times ahead…
Personally I would have liked Talau to have got the interim job. Knows the cup players best and would know which kids fit better into the holes in our roster atm, but on the flip side Dean will be judged on his results for the rest of this season as part of his application for the full time gig, so the balls in his court.
Team list Tuesday tomorrow will be interesting to see if he makes the changes necessary or keep going along the suicidal path….
As a lifetime dragons fan (50 years) it’s sad to see us in this situation again, but with Haran getting the arse aswell, maybe some of the changes needed behind the scenes are unfolding in the right direction, only time will tell.
Hopefully the team he picks is
1. Sloan
2. Fale
3. Holmes (last chance, and switching back to his usual side)
4. Feigai (not my favorite but was solid last week)
5. Tu
6. Atkinson
7. Reed
13. Stewart
12. Couchman
11. Leilua
10. Couchman
9. Cook (if Liddle injured)
8. Sele (Guler)
14. Kyle
15. LPT
16. Kerr (last chance, dolphins effort or F off)
17. Halangahu
18. Lawrie
19. Bucky or LKT

Reed has to play if we are any chance of competing as our halves have offered Jack shit all season, idc if he is 50kg’s wringing wet and young, he either has it or he doesn’t, but we won’t know if we don’t give it a crack. Couldn’t be any worse than what we have dished up so far.
All I want to see is effort and pride in the jersey. Some, mainly the young kids have shown it all year. It’s the experienced players that have let us down which has been very disappointing.
Hopefully rock bottom has been reached

Ok so Flanno is gone and Dean Young is interim. First up, Dean would not have been my choice for interim but in some ways he was the most logical choice purely from a practical viewpoint. I also hope that the club looks elsewhere for a head coach for 2027 onwards.

Having said that I have never understood the weird vitriol aimed at him from sections of the fanbase. He has at least gone outside the club to get coaching experience. Whether he should been been employed by the club after that is up for debate but so much of the discussion around him is really unhinged and weirdly personal. Anyway.....

My own two cents is that whether its right or wrong to attribute any blame to him, Dean has been part of the coaching setup during an absolutely terrible period in Dragon's history. Our defence with him on board as defensive coach has been awful. The culture of the club during this time has been awful. The results have been awful. The style of play has been awful. Dean could be responsible for some or a lot of that or he could be responsible for none of it. Personally I've seen far more of Griffin's and Flanno's style in the way the team has played during the last two coaching tenures than anything from our assistant coaches during this time. Nevertheless it's obvious to me that we need to sweep a broom right through the entire first grade coaching department and start with a clean slate and a completely new approach. So moving forward I hope (without any great confidence) that the club will get the next head coaching appointment right.

But back to the now. Whether I like it or not, Dean is the coach for the rest of the year. He has the same dog sh^t roster that Flanno had. He has the same bunch of boneheads that have zero footy smarts that Flanno had. It seems highly unlikely any interim coach could walk in and turn this turd around instantly.

Whether I like his appointment as interim coach or not, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and judge him on his results. I genuinely hope that he can restore pride to the jersey even if I'm skeptical as to whether this is possible with the squad available to him.

I'd be stunned if he made drastic changes to the team for the Anzac day game - it would be brave to pick Reed for example but is throwing him out into what could very possibly be a 50 + point loss on his debut wise? What I will be looking at closely is what he does after the Anzac day game and the bye. He'll have two weeks to make a plan, pick a side going forwards for the rest of the season and we will all see if he is / was part of the problem or whether he actually has some coaching ability.

So I wish him well. Don't agree with his appointment, but I wish him well.
