You do realize this is what we do with our game in these expansion markets now.......
Sponsors aren't going to get on board for a bush style amateur comp. Look at cabramatta. Who outside of rugby league fans know about this?

You gotta gotta give sponsors reasons and incentives to sign up.....

Dont market to Aussie or UK sponsors

Sell to people like Coke Pepsi Maccas

Use international brands for international events

it needs big sponsors and big media coverage...as pointed out above look at cabramatta, its a fantastic little event...and only we know about it lol

Again I'd say Cabramatta is evidence *against* playing it in Sydney.
No ones interested if it doesn't have NRL stars.

And being dependent on NRL stars means the event is dependent on the whims of NRL clubs and coaches.
It would start as a novelty and end within 5 years.

Start in Toronto.. market it like the Wolfpack have. Aim for a 10-20k crowd.
Play it overseas a couple of years and make it an event in its own right before bringing it back to established markets.

are they NRL stars or kangaroo, kiwi, samoan, english stars?? don't confuse the world 9s with the NRL 9s or a possible 9's curcuit..

and you can't play in toronto pre season....it'll be -10c

What? I don't want it to have anything to do with the NRL or players who are contracted in the NRL.

Circuit is my preferred format for 9s competition, with a World Cup every 4 years. Neither event requires current NRL stars imo.

For now I was talking about the first instance of an annual 9s event to be developed into a circuit.

and you can't play in toronto pre season....it'll be -10c

Then don't play it in our pre-season.

what i was meaning about "NRL stars" is people always say we're at the whim of the clubs cos they pay their wages...well actually the NRL tv grant pays their wages..so in a round about way its the NRL thats pays em'...but anyway...im just being silly..

and i agree with your 9's circuit & world 9's senario

Maybe make it age restricted at first as Clubs would more likely release the young guns rather than their stars.

The most important thing about the future of the 9's in my opinion is it needs to used as a tool to grow the develop the international game, just like the 7's has with rugby. Our international game needs all the help it can get. I'd be happy if Australia didn't even play lol, maybe even make it the best of the instrust super cup and the nsw cup and send that team at the start. Keep the nrl 9's as is because I love watching that weekend .

I reckon for the big 3 it should be age restricted..say under 23-24s

No need for such rules if they're brave enough to let go of the NRL and SL, so to speak.

A 9s tournament played mid NRL season in Singapore (to use an above example) it won't make one jot of difference whether NRL stars play in it or not. In fact it's likely to more competitive and entertaining as a result, less lopsided games.

There are hundreds of players running around lower grades who might not cut it in the week to week 80 minute grind but might excel at 9s style RL. The big 3 should recruit International 9s players from there.

9's was just a gimmick game that the nrl did for more $$$$ to challenge the 7's. If they wanted to grow the international this is not they way to go. I'm telling you only Tier 3 or Tier 2 sides will only take it seriously and try and go after guys from Aus and NZ. Start by having more competions focusing on emerging nations. More Tier 1 V Tier 2 Nations (Australia V Samoa, Lebanon V England Etc) Still keep the anzac game and tests against NZ but just less. Even make the 4 nations England,Scotland,Samoa and France.

Random country pulled out of my arse, don't read too much into it.

That said, if Ozzy Rools can throw a game in bloody Shanghai..

There is a bit of a difference. The major sponsor of one of the teams is Chinese. Plus AFL supporters will go just about anywhere to follow their teams. Or enough of them will.

I doubt that there were any walk-ins, other than locally based Aussies. The whole crowd was either Aussies or local Huawei employees bused in for the occasion.

AFL fans are crowing about this but at the end of the day it was still two Aussie sides playing in China in front of a majority travelling fan base. Hardly ground breaking.

RL in the same week had its first ever club game in Canada where a Canadian club actually played in. I know which I would prefer

There is obviously some money available in Singapore to attract events to their stadium, which from all accounts is a bit of a white elephant.

I understand that it is a pretty good facility, air conditioned apparently.

The thing is, would an event there lead to anything substantial? History says no.

All depends on how and why it's done doesn't it.

One off Cash grab or part of a consistent strategy in SE Asia?

Speak of the devil, apparently the RFL had an offer from Singapore for the World Club Challenge, reported by Sky Sports this morning

http://www.skysports.com/rugby-leag...rges-as-potential-venue-for-world-club-series

this nonsense comes up every bloody year and its getting really fxxking boring..singapore,dubai,hong kong the fxxking sychelles...fxxk off it'll be in the north or england..or at a push sydney..this happens every year..the story actually started a few days ago saying sydney might host it again.now singapore..see a pattern? it's gonna keep going west till it gets to wigan!

theres developing markets in our own countries that would be better...Perth or Cardiff, under the roof...or actual developing RL countries like canada or usa....

our administrators need to pull their fat heads out of their fat arses
