Iowa Rugby League plans open game

With the development of Rugby League in Iowa continuing, the Iowa City Crash are hosting an open invitation game in Iowa City on Sunday. We've invited all our local union teams, as well as anyone else who wants to give the game a try to come on down, play a game and see how they enjoy it! With players looking to come from all parts of the state, this should help us kickoff a good push outside Iowa city!

If you know anyone in Iowa (or the midwest for that matter) who wants to come, they are more than welcome!

Well, we played 2 games yesterday, 10 people showed, so we had to play 4's. On the plus sides, we got some full speed experience in for the boys (all but one of them are new this year), we had 2 guys come from Waterloo (an hour and a half away) and had a former Northern Raiders (AMNRL) player there. We are looking to head up to Waterloo, as we may be able to get a 7/9's game in against a union team up there. Things are progressing (slowly!)

Congrats Brad, glad it is getting off the ground for you!

Mate, six years too late :(
Spent 5 years working year round at camps in okoboji and Ames. Would've loved to get onboard the rhinotrain. I reckon you have ready made athletes in the Midwest, traditional sports like football and wrestling are huge. However, that same Midwestern traditional lifestyle probably works against you with most schools and areas having such a strong focus on them and baseball to lesser degree.

All the best with it mate!

Wain,

Very true, Baseball is our biggest competitor at the moment, as we are playing outside football and wrestling seasons. Would have loved another person on the west side of the state (almost all my contacts are on the east side). If you are ever back over here, let me know!

Will do mate, I definitely have a passion for RL in US...I was even at the one-off WAMNRL match in Phoenix back in 05ish. :)

All the best!
