Is Being 'Comfortable' in Your Job the Key to Success?

A couple of McGregor's recent statements this year regarding his contract extension and team selections:

1.On his contract extension: 'To have a good focus and purpose for the next two years is really comforting.....' Translation: 'Relax, winning isn't everything, but job security is!'

2.On team selection: 'It's important that you get players comfortable in their positions.' Translation: 'We're all good mates here, don't fret about a few bad games, the spot is yours.'

This is a great point merahputih, and it isolates something essential about McGregor. He has steadfastly refused to leave his comfort zone his entire career, even as a player.

As an up and coming talented centre, McGregor actually quit the Steelers to return to the familiar surrounds of Dapto to play with his mates. Illawarra finally got him to return to them, and of course he spent the entirety of his playing career at the one club. When injury forced him into retirement at the end of 99, he once again struggled to adjust to life outside his usual comfort zone, so he came out of retirement for an ill-advised extra season in 2001.

After his playing career, he obviously stuck around as a conditioning coach and then assistant coach, ensuring the terror zone of 'somewhere else' was avoided. When Bennett came in and immediately sacked him, did he attempt to pursue his coaching career path at another NRL club, or perhaps in England? Hell no, too uncomfortable. He stayed in the Gong and coached a bush league club.

No wonder he claims that the players who commute from Sydney are struggling, the bloke is scared of driving up Mount Ousley.

I like how they say being a coach is a results driven role. Not at Saints, they obviously don't look at results just if your a good bloke, players feel warm and fuzzy around him and if you have played for them. Mary has nothing to worry about.

@merahputih he mentioned it again in his pathetic presser yesterday. He's obsessed with the notion.

"As a coach you've just got to make sure you're comfortable being uncomfortable"
