Of course MG is one of our greats.

Roy & H.G. called him "The Tap"...Either he was off or on....hot or cold.

But what MG did in that grand final, the team as a whole when he was off for 10 minutes, and when he came back,Roycies two tries, the overall desperation and excitement of the occasion, the greatest grand final team try eventually scored by Brad Izzard and you have the greatest grand final of all time.

People only pick the '88 Tigers V Canberra GF as the greatest as a way for the Tigers players and fans of getting over the two straight losses in the 1988-89 grand finals.:-({|=

And in that game, there was nothing to compare the excitement of the 1991 grand final...or any for that matter.

Gong Panther...... we are on the same page of the same hymn book. 91 GF was heaven on earth.

Mark Geyer is easily one of the 10 best players to play for Penrith. He was pivotal in Penrith's rise to the top in the late 80's and early 90's and when he came back he was still a decent player but a different player to when he was younger.

If Mark Geyer isn't an all time great for Penrith then practically no one is.

Did Tallis and MG get many chances to go head to head?

I found Round 17, 1993. Geyer second row for Balmain, Tallis bench for St George. This was the first meeting, there were probably many others since MG played a further 6 seasons after that.

Tallis V Geyer would be the real fight of the century. My old man used to work on the door of the band club and at Panthers back in MGs heyday. Suffice to say he has a couple of stories about the big man causing trouble.

I used to frequent the band club in the early 90's. I wonder if your old man turfed me down the stairs at all?
