Of course Lee shouldn't be dropped after that series, but you shouldn't get carried away either..

He's played in 15 series, and averaged under 30 just 6 times - 3 of those being his first three series in test cricket, and the 4th in his 5th series...

What's your response to this?

McGrath had a good series.
He was out bowled by Brett Lee in Adelaide, surely you would even admit that?

The point is, you claim lee is only in the side because of his looks, when his record in the most recent series Australia have played would suggest otherwise, and surely, when selecting the side for the south african games, what happened v the west indies is more pertinant than the ashes series?

and as I've said in other posts, he now needs to back it up against south africa.

even if he does, he doesn't become a world beater.. he continues to be someone who's had moments of brilliance, but for the most part has been very ordinary in tests...

That's absolute crap.

The Ashes was gauged against quality opposition and the Australians failed.

Most of the West Indian side would be lucky to play Pura Cup in this country.

I would have thought the Ashes was a perfect gauge of a player's character, the Windies series was a training run.

The only Australian that showed they could handle the pressure in the Ashes was Warne.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, how many good series does it take to become a world beater?

Performing consistently well at test level for a considerable period of time.

The Australians in this category would be Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne and McGrath.

Lee is nowhere near that category.

OK.
Sorry. Glad you cleared that up.
The three test matches that were played didnt happen.
We learnt nothing about Michael Hussey or Andrew Symonds.
And Matty Hayden isnt really back in form.
Thanks for setting me straight.

looks like Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Gilchrist and McGrath have lost their edge. as the ashes shows, they cant handle pressure and the west indies series was just a training run.

Ok, so hypothetically if Lee perfomed at the level that he has since he altered his action for a year would that be "a considerable period of time"?

Not that I care really. He is Aus's #2 at the moment, and is quite a way ahead of the rest indeed.

Read it again.

I said that these players had performed consistently well for a considerable period of time.

I wasn't talking just about the last series or the ashes, but years gone by.

But don't mind me mate, continue with your 'only as good as your last game' theory.

Gotta love cricket, it's the one game that there aren't enough hours in the day to chat about it.

When I get a spare night at home I'll pull the DVD out just for you Fish Eel.
