Is it possible to miss a tackle, on the demo you could not?

On the old demo you could not miss a tackle, the player would only tackle someone else or the ball carrier. Do you alway do a diving tackle when you press the diving tackle button, regardless where you are standing. Is it possible to land on the ground if you miss a tackle or will the tackle button only be effective when somone is close to you?

Have you downloaded the videos available on the net? If you havent you should check them out (www.rlgame.com) and you will see a lot of tackling, and failed tackling in them.

In the tech demo you could actually "miss" a tackle when the player with the ball barnstormed over the top of you!

I am talking about, can you attempt a tackle at any time? And can you miss, or does the player have to be near by?
After further review of the videos.
I have actually seen in the last gameplay video, the one Mario was presenting, that right before they score a try on the offload a defensive player does miss the ball carrier completely, this was good to see.
