Southern Sharks.

Cronulla remains in Sydney but signs a long term deal with the NRL, SA government to rebrand a little (Southern) and play 4-5 games in Adelaide.

The NRL could look to add additional games through moving other teams Sharks games in Adelaide. Even this statistic on paper is helpful to build corporate support.

İt would be good for Adelaide tourism, profile and good for the Sharks given it would increase their coverage and casual base which at present is limited to the shire.

The NRL should give an additional million in grant per year to make it happen.

This would be a step in adding a million casual fans in SA.

Additionally, the NRL should make a Sydney wide agreement for "Sydney season tickets).

This would help a team like Sharks but also means it would encourage a travelling crowd within Sydney, increasing crowds and atmosphere (which has positive flow on effects) .

Also, teams out if Sydney teams ,such as Bears etc could do so. Their presence would help the crowds and atmospy.

Anyone who believes a relocated Sharks would not be an issue with supporters ,has I suggest never really met one.Just like when Souths & Norths were flicked, how many of their supporters supported other clubs. You could probably write all their names on the front of a foolscap envelope.
I can verify that as a Souths supporter I didn't support another club. I am someone who watches every game of footy every week, but when we were flicked I turned my back on league altogether. I know quite a few other Bunnies supporters who did the exact same thing. Most passionate supporters watch NRL because thats where their team plays, take their team away and they have no reason to keep watching. Luckily the NRL knows this so while mouthbreathers like this Jonty loser propose culling Sydney teams, the NRL know what a truly bad business idea that really is.

The reality is that the NRL have been talking about what to do with the Sharks since the 90's. For more than a generation they have pulled down the league in most metrics. At some point action will need to be taken as a closed league in a growing sport can't continue to support them.

When the Perth Bears prove to be a huge success it'll only be a matter of time until we see serious talk of the Adelaide Sharks. The NRL won't start up a new franchise and they won't bring back the Rams, it'll be a relocation of a 'traditional' club.

The Sharks branding is strong but the club itself is weak, the fans are weak, the sponsors are weak, the stadium is garbage. The only upside are juniors but they will exist with or without Cronulla in the NRL, same way the huge football juniors in the Shire exist without a Sutherland A-League team.

Not only will it fix the NRL's weakest link but it'll expand to the last large untapped market in Aus/NZ and it'll strengthen St George's position as the sole southern Sydney team, as they were before the short-term thinking to which led to the introduction of Cronulla.

As someone who used to live in Caringbah and Miranda, I really hope things magically improve but we both know they won't.

The Sharks have been around since 1967 and have nothing to show for it except a jagged premiership during the same era when they were done for salary cap issues and drug cheating. Look at what the Dolphins have done in just a handful of years, it's night and day.

Adelaide sharks is the best of both worlds as it allows the NRL to have a foot in both camps of the expansion market/terriorty of Adelaide and another foot in a traditional heartland market/terriorty of the Sutherland shire.

whats not to like?

Unfortunately for you ,forget the 90s when many clubs were feeling the pinch and under threat.
"Sponsors are weak"do tell.'Fans are weak" because the stadium capacity ATM is 15K max. "Juniors will exist" on a greatly reduce basis as no incentive to play for your area."Weakest link" being in semis consistently LOL.'Have an asset base and own their ground.
Adelaide Sharks. They are struggling with juniors in a AFL besotted state.
St George area has become more multicultural and is not the rl area it was decades ago. That's why Wollongong is important for them. You are a Dragon's supporter it appears, you should know that.
The head of the NRL is fully aware of the tribal nature of the game ,something you appear to overlook. The NRL would not spend millions on hotel next to the Shark's field for the asset to be weakened by moving the club.
The only thing I established from your outburst.Your argument is p*ss weak. Know the area as it is now .I've been here for yonks and still here, been through all the crap that went on.

The turgid Pom who started this thread has a know hatred of the sharks. He’s been at this for years. He regularly gets banned from the forum. It’s just a matter of time and he’ll be gone again. The fact the club annoys him this much is laughable. What sort of idiot goes to these lengths to whinge about a ground thousands of kilometres away he’ll never attend?

If I end up on a forum with more posts than the Sharks get to their home games after fifty years please delete my account...

FYI the number of useless posts you make on a niche, almost unmoderated, forum doesn't give more weight to your opinion anymore than thinking that a person who spends all of their life on facebook, reddit, twitter knows what they're talking about.

But be my guest, keep piling on instead of addressing the generational issues with the Sharks. I'm sure it'll help fix the poor support, lack of sponsors & terrible ground.

edit: And to hilariously prove the point, I come back to LU a day later and there are four pages of garbage clogging up the thread.... Anyone reading this thread down the track, do yourself a favour and skip ahead.
