Got boring here in a hurry …Really hoping that merkin David Moffett can get some news happening with the NZ2 bid soon so we can start talking about that …
I have the sharks relocating to South Island New Zealand as one of the options along with Adelaide as the other.

but I’d much rather see team #20 become an independent South Island New Zealand team.

I think we should use this thread to catalogue lots of great news about the Sharks. I have dozens of great updates. This should be a lot of fun. There is so much good news and history to share!

who are the terrorists again?

you mean the guy who was on the CIA’s payroll?

you probably didn’t know that judging by your ignorant statement and no I didn’t think he was a good bloke nor did I cheer on the 9/11 terror attacks.
Hamas. Same people did the October 7 attacks and took hostages with them.

But an anti-Semitic lefty like yourself think they're freedom fighters when your own government as does 98% of the world list them as a terrorist organisation.

I'm not a lefty conspiracy theorist like yourself so the CIA comment is just lefty propaganda.

And going by your pro-terrorist, anti-West rhetoric you definitely would've cheered 9/11.

People like you belong in Guantanamo.

You getting relocated to Guantanamo Bay or Belmarsh for supporting terrorism is more likely than the Sharks going anywhere.

And as someone who now lives in Adelaide, as much as I want a team here, I'd want a new team here certainly not the one I've supported for nearly 40 years.

There are a lot of hurdles now in place to us getting a team here.

The stadium isssue being the main one.

Adelaide Oval is now too big and the ground is totally unsuitable to host a RL team going forward.

I went to both Roosters vs Storm games here in the past and sat in the Riverbank Stand for both and you'd be a million miles away from the action.

The other alternative is Coopers Stadium in Hindmarsh in the inner west and as someone who is an Adelaide United member I go there every second week in the summer and as proven by every club in England who plays out of a stadium mainly used by the round ball game, the in-goals will be far too short.

It will require government funding and while the Premier Peter Malinauskas loves partying more than leading the state, the bloke's more interested in getting his paws on the Saudi blood money with LIV Golf and hobnobbing with the AFL.

After 32 years, Sharks legend Andrew Ettingshausen and home-grown supermodel Elle Macpherson have reunited in Las Vegas to re-enact their iconic photo.
Two of the Sutherland Shire's most famous products were memorably snapped together in 1993 when Macpherson – the daughter of ex-Sharks president Peter Gow – was invited to present Ettingshausen with a golden boot in recognition of his 200th game for the club.

With Macpherson now based in the US, the Sharks' historic trip to Vegas to face the Panthers in today's season-opening NRL blockbuster at Allegiant Stadium provided an opportunity for the pair to renew acquaintances and relive old times.

"I just remember thinking he was a spunk,'' Macpherson told the Sunday Telegraph when asked what she recalled of the famous image.
"I remember thinking 'oh god, he's a real spunk' … and he still is.
"I remember seeing him at that time, everyone was jealous of me getting my picture taken with him.
"And here I am having one again.
"He's an icon and he's done so much for the club and for sport.
"He's truly an icon. I love to see us raising our Australian icons."

While Macpherson is unable to attend the match, she organised tickets for her father Peter to watch their beloved team kick off their 2025 campaign.
"I'll always be a Sharkie,'' added Macpherson, who was honoured with Cronulla's No.1 supporter badge in 1990.
A grateful Ettingshausen returned Macpherson's compliments.
"She's been an amazing model and an amazing female. I've got four daughters and they would look up to Elle Macpherson because of the pathways she's created and the way she carried herself all her life," he said.
"Thanks to Elle, there has been a lot of celebrities support the Sharks, but back in the day when we were at that stage when it was very much a male-focused fan base and the league wanted to attract women to the game, and what a perfect person for us to have as an ambassador and have Elle there.''

The full story

A proud family club in the Cronulla Junior League added the prestigious honour of being named the biggest junior league club in Australia. Here’s the secret to their booming success.

Sean Teuma

regular meeting between the Cronulla Junior League and its clubs was set to be a run of the mill one for the Gymea Gorillas.
That was until they received the shock news that they were now Australia’s biggest junior league club.

With 70 teams on their books, the Gorillas have the most registered participants of any club across the country, news that president Jordan Moyle is incredibly proud of.

“We’re very proud of that,” he said.

“We try to remain very family-oriented. We try to look after our juniors as much as our seniors.

“There are great people involved that make the club what it is. We’ve experienced 17 per cent growth in the last 12 months.

“Good word is what will bring people to the club and the things we do, we try and go above and beyond.

“We support things outside of league like charities, and get involved with Indigenous, Anzac and Women In League rounds. There’s a great sense of community involved, parents buy into it and it creates a good culture.”

Gymea is one of four Cronulla-region clubs (along with Como-Jannali, Engadine and De La Salle) in the top 10 in terms of participant numbers, with the Penrith region filling the other six spots.

“To have four out of the top 10 in terms of size come from the shire, it’s a real feather in the cap,” Cronulla Junior League general manager Chris Bannerman said.

“As much as the district puts a lot of effort into digital marketing and recruitment, it comes down to the clubs at the coalface doing the right thing and providing that great experience.”

It’s no secret that the female divisions are the fastest growing across the country, and that’s no different for Gymea.

“Female participants make up about 30 per cent of our club now,” Moyle said.

“We have 26 female teams and we’re seeing growth from the women’s tag transitioning into tackle.

“We have an U9s and U12s all girls tackle team, and we’re hoping to build on that each year.”

That growth is experienced across the region, with Bannerman confirming female participants make up 35-36 per cent of all registered players (up from 32-33 per cent in 2024).

The retention rate in the district was the highest in the state last season, reducing the churn of players leaving the game.

It’s an encouraging statistic as regions across the state look to combat falling numbers among boys once reaching their higher teenage years.
