Is it too late to put an offer in for Johns..

Using union tactics, could be a great money spinner for Parra - not to mention what he could teach the youngsters. Everyone is saying Orford for a year - I'd much rather have Johns for 2, even at 500k per year considering the value he would bring to the club. Plus I don't want him to go to yawnion.

Not fussed if he goes to Union. I have doubts over whether or not he can play two seasons. While it would be good to see him play at Parramatta I doubt very much he will consider other offers from the NRL if he hasn't done so already.

 This is a gee up surely?

If he stays in the NRL he'll stay with Newcastle. Newcastle would launch an air strike on Parramatta if we signed him!

Not too late but too early.
You cannot approach any player until after 30th June.

In saying that I would love to sign Joey up. Imagine the impact he would have on our young players like Smith, Mateo and even Witty.

Absolutely priceless!!!

Johns and Tahu on 2 mill over 2 years!!! (based on high percentage first grade appearances)

Definitely not a gee up. I live a fair distance from the stadium so have to watch most games on Fox, but make the effort to go on special occasions re Parra V Newcastle game earlier in the year to see Joey go around. Thought there may be other Parra fans who are not part of the 10k that went on the weekend who may be swayed to go and watch a high profile player, week in - week out.
The eels need something as I find their style of play can be a little boring due to the absence of gamebreakers.

Hindmarsh rarely breaks the line anymore because he works his butt off in D and is our only option in attack ( and thus an easier target). Perhaps Johns or a player like him could open up more oppotunities for Hindy plus bring in more bums through the gate..??

I would rather Orford than Johns. Orford is only coming into the best form of his career whereas Johns best is gone. Johns hasn't played a full season in 3 years and probably never will again. Why pay someone $500k a year to sit on the sideline and teach the boys when you could lure someone like Orford who has a great rep career ahead of him to actually show the boys by being on the field!

Orford is very good, but doesn't have the kicking game of Johns. Orford spends his fair share of time on the sideline too, so in terms of reliability there's not too much between them.

Orford only wants a one year contract, it's been said before and i'll say it again, we should not go for short term solution at halfback. We've been doing that for the past 4 years, and funnily enough our side is performing worse and worse. Orford is greedy and obviously has no loyalty.

Surely you jest?

Orford is great, but has NOTHING on Joey.

Joey is better defensively, has a better kicking and passing game, a better running game, great vision and can kick goals like nobody's business.

However, we probably won't even come close to signing him and like someone else mentioned - we need a long-term halfback.

Yeah...there are just some players that are not meant to play for any other club...Joey is one of those.

It ain't gonna happen. Why would Joey leave Newcastle for another NRL club? If they put a deal together for him in Union for one or two years then I can see that being a challenge to him.

But I don't think there'd be anything in it for him to accept an offer from Parra. (eg relocation, new teammates, same old game etc)

Have the Broncs re-signed Locker yet. Maybe we could team up Johns and Lockyer in the blue and gold after June 30.
