Is Marshall a great player?

His game vs the warriors in the finals last yr was sometihng that defines him IMO. Last tackle, with a lead, and he does some razzle dazzle BS and as a result the tigers turn the ball over the th warriors are in prime position and win the game with a fluke bomb.
Benji needed to lay smart, kick down field and just lock the game down.
He is very flashy, but sometimes play oh so very dumb

By the way his defence isn't as bad as a lot of other halves in the NRL. Will put pressure on the opposition by rushing out putting his body on the line, which is commendable given what he went through early in his career.

Benji does a lot of irritating lower percentage plays because there is no one else in the team who can play that role. There is no coincidence that he was at his best between Prince and Hodgeson. Its the same in the Kiwi side.

He is going to have a high percentage of errors because the pressure to get something going. If he had a half decent half inside him, the Tigers would win the comp. When he gets it right - he's a freak.

He is like Cliff Lyons without Geoff Toovey.

Biased, but yes.

His record speaks for itself, and he's achieved it without ever having played with the benefit of a dominant forward pack or a solid halves partner (but for 2005).

He's come back from a series of career threatening injuries after many people wrote him off, and has returned to his best form.

And he's changed his game massively over time to remain a leader for his team. Most of his try assists (which he's been close to the top of the comp for consistently for years) come from his passing game these days. He couldn't be any different as a player than the guy who was carving people up with a step and his running game in the mid 2000s. And he's still right at the top of his game - the opposite of a one trick pony.

I think most of this is self evident too. Whether that makes him great or really, really good is an open question. Which makes you wonder what it is about him that the large number of people who don't rate him don't like - obviously he doesn't conform to their image of what a good half or five-eighth should be.

That was mostly Farah's fault. Instead of giving it to Benji who was ready to punt it down-field, he dawdles out of dummy half looking to run it down the blind robbing Marshall of valuable time & space.

He still should have at least attempted the kick, but Farah was just as much to blame if not more so.

That's another thread though.

He would make a great addition to the Warriors playing outside Johnson. Those two would run riot together in the nrl. That, or they will end up tripping over each other.

The lines between half and five eigth have been blurred in recent times, hence comparison is apt.

No, I was at the game and you could see benji yelling at Lawrence and tuqiri about the play he was going to do, they both dropped back ready for it. I said to my mate 'we're going to run it' and we did

As captain Farah should have over called him but that play was set up by benji the play before.

only to the untrained eye, the distinction is blurred.

but anyway, I would chose Marshall off the fact he has more WOW video's than Stacey on Youtube.

WOW, like Phil Gould's orgasmic "WOOOOW......ORIGIN PLAY RIGHT THERE RABS..... WOOOOOW!"
