Despite brave faces at Vega, all is not well at the ratings-challenged station. The three breakfast presenters, Rebecca Wilson, Angela Catterns and Tony Squires are rumoured to be unhappy on several fronts and it's understood Wilson has asked to be released from her contract a year early. The trio seems to work well together, despite the pressure to build ratings from a very low base. But according to well-placed sources, there's growing friction with program boss Jeff O'Brien and breakfast producer Alex Dean. Wilson has been seen in tears at the station several times in the past few weeks but management is refusing to release her from her contract. O'Brien says he won't comment on contracts as they are confidential but he is looking forward to having all three presenters on air next year. "It's going well," he says. "Improving all the time."
