Is our club at risk.

Guys i keep hearing stuff about the NRL reducing the amount of teams in the comp to be able to double grants and therefore pay players more money. (ideas they are looking at as options)

If this it to happen..........................................What would happen to us. Are we at risk of being relocated or even losing our licence?

The part owner of the Steelers is a billionare and I have heard he wants to relocate to Adelaide. Does he have enough pull in the NRL to win the fight. To top that off when the super league war started they wanted to relocate us.

Wouldnt it be better to have some teams relocate so we can have a greater TV coverage accross australia, therefore increasing the TV money coming in instead of killing off some teams.

There are some teams in the NRL that are srtuggling financially but i dont believe we are one of them. We have more season ticket holders in Sydney than most of the other teams.

I guess some discussion on this could help me sleep at night.:D

I think for the NRL to relocate us would be suicide.

St George is a major 'brand' in itself, in many ways more than the Dragons.

Adelaide, or Southern, dragons would be in no way the club I follow. I could live with the tacked on 'Illawarra' but removing the St George would do me.

I'd rather follow an NSWRL team called the St George /St George Illawarra Dragons than an NRL franchise club called the Southern Dragons (for example)

I think having Wollongong andd southern Sydney puts us in a good position.

The club needs to push memberships down there. Given the area we cover there are no excuses at all.

Id say the Sharks to be completely dissolved.

Souths to the Central Coast.

Parra or the Dogs to Perth and

Bob's your uncle.

back page of the courier mail today has an idea of a national 12 team competition like this:

North Queensland cowboys
Brisbane Broncos
Gold Coast Titans
Newcastle-Central Coast Knights
Wests-Canterbury Bulldogs
Parramatta-Penrith Panthers
Sydney-Stgeorge Illawarra Dragons
Canberra Raiders
Melbourne Storm
Adelaide Sharks
Perth Rabbitohs
New Zealand Warriors

They can forget adding Adelaide to the national comp. I actually played league down there for a year when I was forced to move there from my haven on the Gold Coast.

The place is a joke. More players will leave for Union if they have to go to Adelaide.

I'm actually temporarily living up the road from your beloved Kogarah while my mansion in Gods Country is being renovated. ;-)

It's not in Brooky. It's south of the bridge. ;-). As my father would say, "Tuj je odma voda."

Mate, if you keep guessing you may get to 100 posts by the end of the day.

Thanks for the derailment. Don't forget that Dennis wanted to take your entire club to union. That would solve one problem :p

I don't wanna be the St George Illawarra Wellington Perth Hong Kong Dragons.

But to be honest, as long as St George & Dragons are in the same name, I'd still follow the team.

The club needs to pull the finger out and fill the whole grandstand at Kogarah and WIN to the brim with members.

If we can have a gaurenteed 15k at every match, it will go a long way to securing our future.

Next year under WB, is a Huge year for us. It's either going to make or break our club. I'm leaning towards make.

Just curious, do many of you guys have mates that were St George or Illawarra fans, didn't support the merger and gave up supporting the team or rugby league in general after the merger?

it's true that our club is struggling. The pokie tax is crippling many of the sydney clubs. If they are to get rid of teams, it would be unfair to get rid of the dragons. Not just because im being biased to the dragons but look how successful they were back in the 50s and 60s. They changed rugby league. With bennett, they may do it again. Win some premierships that we haven't had since 1979!

They also merged for the benefit of relaxed salary cap. I think that some of the sydney clubs should either merge or exit the nrl. The sharks have not yet won a premiership and may benefit from merging. Not sure about any other clubs though.

i think we will be okay. as drake said the st george itself is a major name.

i would be more worried i was a sharkies fan to be honest. i can imagine if we merged with them we would still keep the st george.

the club really needs to prove itself to be worthy of staying though, more members, better attendances etc etc. alot of this rests in our hands too.
