Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Ricky was pretty classy in the press conference. He barely gets angry any more. Fans are living in the past waiting for a ricky blow up imo.

Like it can happen (47 texers) but its very rare. He is more likely to say we played good when we didnt than get mad at the refs.

Ricky has finally realised that getting angry won't change the outcome of the game or what the refs do.

Any anger he has these days is directed at the press who are trying to bait him into having a go at the refs.

Got a team that finished 10th in the last 2 years to a GF and almost a premiership. Not bad.

Probably should have got rid of Blake f**king Austin sooner Stick.

Would love to see Raiders repeat this year’s success. Really enjoyable team to watch

Ricky’s teams have a bad habit of falling away after a good year

That argument doesn't really stack up either though- to swallow it you have to ignore 3 straight GF's he made at the start if his career. And no it wasn't because Murray handed him some well oiled machine- the team he inherited from Murray had just finished 6th with a 13-12 record, losing about as often as they won.

And what if good in '16, fell away but came back stronger in '19?

So basically some (two) teams Ricky coached fell over- one of which is the Eels who do nothing but stumble over themselves & he wasn't there long enough to reap the benefits of his bold & innovative projector scheme long term.

The other that fell into a slump is the Sharks- "
Not only was the club in dire financial straits [9] but the Cronulla Sharks club was also tarnished by media allegations about a 2002 group-sex incident involving former Sharks players, player Reni Maitua's dismissal after testing positive to drugs,[10] removal of the captaincy from key player Paul Gallen, due to making racist remarks several unsavoury incidents involving now-disgraced CEO Tony Zappia (including his assault of a female staff member and involvement in an insurance-fraud fan donation scandal).[11]"

To further push his barrow, any bloke who realises that Gallen is a selfish oaf who should just eb doing what he is told- not given the car keys clearly has some insight.

I'd like to see the Raiders going strong again next year and gunning for a GF, but it seems in this modern game (where the salary cap has made everything fair and equal) the only teams who don't fall away after making/ winning a GF are the Roosters and Melbourne...

Stick is way ahead of his time. Kicking on the 3rd was certainly novel. Most teams try to score tries.

Canberra have an international 7 arriving next season and will suddenly have one of the stronger spines in the comp. Canberra will have every opportunity to contend for a premiership in 2020.

Haha I’ve criticised the tactic before but it’s not uncommon for teams to try and trust their defense

He got us to the grand final and had rebuilt the club. He’s doing well here. You might not like him but it’s a question of denying reality at a certain point no ?

The good thing going for Raiders seems to be their recruits are both talented and mature with a desire to win. Seems like the dickhead culture of yesterday’s Raiders teams has been weeded out

I’ve got a good feeling about the squad we currently have though. Most of time we’ve made the finals we’ve made a strong post origin charge off the back of some ridiculous attack. But this time we spent the whole season in the Top 4 based on strong defence. Just need to improve the attack inside the 20. Hopefully George Williams can help with that.

I just really hope that GF loss doesn't break the raiders. Probably been said but Canberra are the sorta team that can have a shit hot year then back it up with an absolute garbage year and not even make the 8.

I think if they keep this core group of players though they'll be there abouts for many years

If that was all he did as coach giving the town a team they could support again vs those wankers days is a gift in itself.

Its a strange tactic when youre chasing points.

Nothing but love for stick. Any other club wouldve punted him for lack of success. I think he really lucked out with the Fighton five eighth experiment.

He has wanted Jack at 5/8th since he got here
