Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Regardless of his coaching ability, he had the smarts to take a deal with the Raiders till the end of 2025. Any early dismissal surely means cha-ching! for Sticky.

The Raiders rarely sack coaches , only one in 41 years & we've had plenty that would have been long gone at other clubs
And he's a club legend as a player ,
So stick stays til the end of 2025 , but please to Jesus no more extensions

We were going no better then this after 5 rounds in 2022 & it turned around.
We have a soft draw & won't be affected too much by origin , so might limp into the finals off the back of that

Yeah, if it wasn't for that single GF win as coach he'd basically be a modern-day Brian Smith. Wasn't that basically with the team that Graham Murray assembled?

Anyway, yeah.. a long time to run off one success.
Yeah 100% Graham Murray assembled that side.

Throw in Fittler running the show in the halves.

All Ricky had to do was turn up for the press conference.

Ricky has coached 443 games since his last premiership.

The longest drought since Brian Smith who was 601 games without a premiership.

We’re seeing a transition in football coaching. Younger coaches are more relative to the demographic of players we have. The technology and tools available to coaches and teams has come a lot further than just tackling bags and pep talks.

Im sure there’s many on here who have worked in organisations where the aged management structure eventually gives way and with it brings new energy and direction. You still need the extensive experience but the roles these guys play becomes very different.

The old stalwarts are better off being in a consulting role and developing the younger coaches. It’s better for the game and the clubs need to keep evolving.

Yep, just look at the new wave of coaches that are coming out of the "Ivan Cleary School". That's the future, right there.

Skeletor still goes alright for an old merkin. Apart from that I think you are on the money. I really would have liked to see that happen at Penrith with Ivan moving into a mentor type role with Ciraldo taking the clipboard. Ciro jumped a bit too early though, not that you can blame him.

Maybe Stick could move into a mentor position and transition Rapana to coaching. Raiders fans probably wont agree, but it's something the neutrals should be able to get behind to keep the comedy capital of the NRL at full steam.
