Is the ARLC having total control of International RL in Southern Hemi a good or bad thing?

With the ARLC power play to control paying all NRL/NRLW players for Int Rl is this a good or bad thing for the Int game?
On one hand it elevates Int Rl at long last in the ARLC's thinking,
but on the other how will it work for players from those countires who arent NRL players, will the countries governing body get any say or revenue from tests and what about England and France? Will they just be left to do their own thing with no consolidated Int calendar across Northern and Southern hemis?

The ARLC - despite its BS dribble - finds International Rugby League an irritating pest. It’s the only conclusion you can come to..Neither the ARLC nor Ch9 want IRL to become a formidable machine otherwise they would be a lot more accomodating in terms of at least a 10 year calendar..

For the ARLC and Nine, SOO is there one and only consideration. We all know what an annual Kangaroos v Kiwi series could do if given even with half the support Origin gets. Past ratings figures prove that.

I give up on the 2025 RLWC. I do acknowledge this is not the fault of the ARLC but the fact is, Nine wouldn’t want it anyway and what Nine says goes. I’d prefer tours and such right through to 2029. Surely 6 years is enough for even rugby league to get that right..

No idea. I just hope and at some point we at least see more of Tonga, Samoa and NZ. I can’t believe we have yet to capitalise on the rivalry and hype potential here. We need a regular tri series or something like that instead of just waiting for the WC and hoping they face each other.

It’s criminal how much of a missed opportunity this is.

Ideally next year we see a 5 match Kangaroos tour to UK and France,
tri nations in NZ with samoa, tonga and NZ
and a 3 test series of PNG v Fiji with 2 tests in PNG and 1 in Fiji.

Now that would be something to get excited about! And something the ARLC is trying hard to make not happen.

Unfortunately it is the only option. NZ will never be big enough to push Int RL by itself or in opposition to AUS let along the islands. Just got to hope someone eventually sees its worth and pushes it to a level that it cant be squashed again

In can have its positives for sure but there is also a real risk of an isolationist approach by the ARLC, as well as no funding going to the countries themselves to support growing the game. If ARLC is taking all the revenue from these games and giving none to the participating countries beyond player payments then where does that leave the governing bodies?
ARLC is the only org with the funds to be able to set up and grow an international calendar down under in a positive and sustainable way, but if not done right it could become very damaging overall for IRL.

Ive really got my fingers crossed the Tonga tour is a great success and the Tongan RL make plenty of profit from it so it encourages other SH countries to not just accept the scraps the ARLC may be throwing them. NZ tours of England have always been very lucrative and be a shame in NZRl, who run on an oily rag, miss out on that.

Australia v England 2017 RLWC Final - 40,000

Matildas v France trial 50,000.

Sorry, but that is a question that the ARLC seriously needs to address. The Kangaroos brand is being f***ed over by the dickheads leading our game.

When was the last time the Kangaroos played in Oz? 2019?

Wannabees, Matilda’s, Socceroos etc. EVERY EFFING YEAR FFS…

Can’t wait for a novel length post from a defeatist in regard to this issue..

There is no kangaroo brand, that’s the problem. as far as international interest and branding goes kangaroos are way behind pretty much every other national team in this country.
arlc has shown no real interest since it took over in 2012 to grow the international interest and in particular the kangaroo brand.

we limp from one year to the next not knowing what international games are next. No wonder fans show no real interest when the governing body and subsequently media doesn’t,

its ashame as we finally have 5 or 6 international sides that are starting to be able to compete with each other,

world nines
6 nations
ashes tours
pacific cup
World Cup

so much Opportunity!

Then we could watch Kangaroos beat France 80-0

If it wasn’t for the nrl there would be zero international footy now

from the tri nations, to bringing back the World Cup to the end of season int it’s only the nrl doing the hard yards

cough https://www.nrl.com/news/2023/04/28/england-to-host-tonga-in-three-match-test-series/ cough

whilst there is zero international RL announced or taken place in 2023 in the southern hemisphere the northern hemisphere has a full tour happening and numerous 3rd tier nation matches taking place as well around 15 international matches already been played across a range of age groups and categories.

But yeh tell us again how well the NRL is doing in managing IRL here lol

I’ve seen a post on social media suggesting PNG is keen on hosting a Tri Series with Cooks and Fiji. Don’t know if the poster has any real contacts. No official sources..

If true, it sets the scene for a Kangaroos, Kiwi and Samoa Tri Series and then of course the Tonga 🇹🇴 tour to England.

As usual, France and Wales are left out to dry..??
