Is there an expected time/date for an expansion announcement?

I know this has probably been covered in one of the pages of the 7 billion threads flying around but has there actually been any sort of confirmation as to when a descision is to be made on if/when/where expansion will occur?

I keep hearing that Gallop says bid x is good, and bid y has secured a sponsor but essentially are we just waiting for it to fall out of the sky?

I seem to recall there being a definite date set the year the Dolphins[Titans]/Bears/Orchas were slugging it out for the 16th spot.

The definite date in that case was not know until very late in the day and only then after the broad brushstrokes of the new TV deal were settled. I'd expect much the same this time. Only after TV negotiations are well down the track and we have a view from the likely suitor if they will pay significantly more for an expanded comp, and if so which new teams they'd pay most for, will a decision day be announced. The NRL might accept formal bids before then but no decision will be made without significant input from the new television partners.

You would think no decision would be made until the independent commission will be up and running. Gallop did say that in around July the announcement would be made, but also that announcement could be simply that they may delay any decision on expansion till next year.

Simple answer is NO!

Latest timeline I have heard (though not set in stone)

IC early May
Call for expansion bids late May (but no guarantee that there will be expansion)
Bids due in mid June
Expansion decision late August (depending on if TV rights have been agreed)

Still all very much up in the air, but then this is RL so what can you expect!
