Is Trent Robinson the best Eastern Suburbs/Sydney Roosters coach since Jack Gibson?

It is starting to look that way.

Gibbo was coach of the 1974 and 1975 grand final wins.

Robinson emulates Gibson in that he places his emphasis on rock solid defence. Plus he is relaxed and low key, like Gibson. (The same low key quality is possessed by Michael McGuire and Wayne Bennett, but not by Craig Bellamy, Geoff Toovey, Des Hasler and Ricky Stuart, who are all nervous wrecks).

This team has a lot more brilliance in it than the team of 2002. The only real star in 2002 was Fittler. The star studded quality of this team reminds me of 1974-75. And Robbo is bringing out the best of these great players.

We will know if the analysis is true in early October. IMO only Melbourne or Souths can beat the Roosters in October. But if the Roosters have the Big Seven (SBW, Wharea-Hargreaves, Pearce, Maloney, Jennings, Cordner, and Friend) playing in the GF, the Roosters will win.

He's doing well. But let's just keep it in our pants for the moment.

Do you really think it takes a lot of talent to coach a cheque book side if you do just ask Ricky Stuart

Robbo's a champion but surely you can't forget someone like Graham Murray. He's very much fresh in the mind due to his recent passing but he was very very important to our early 00's success.

FMD we haven't done anything to warrant this discussion.

Graham Murray was a great man and all but as a coach he's nowhere near the best in our modern era. We would not have won the comp in 2002 with him as coach. The team half arsed the 2001 season that's on Murray.

Who is then?

Ivan Cleary is struggling coaching the most active team in the market maybe I should ask him as well

Thanks again for Jennings lol how is Cherrington going?

Robbo has certainly started off on the right foot.
But 1 swan doesn't make a summer.
Let's have this debate in 10 years time!

This!

I remember in 2003 people were saying Ricky Stuart had revolutionised the game because of the Roosters' defensive style. It's way too early to call.

Robbo has areally good coaching team around him and has more of a team approach to coaching rather than being the decision maker.

I reckon we'll lose JT and Paul Green over coming years if we continue to show the high standard of football we are playing at the moment. Green is already considered for the Cowboys job.

Fitzy will be a Rooster man for life.

Robbo seems to be a good technical coach and an exceptional man manager whcih are great traits for a team coach. The club had already expressed talk about upgrading his contract but too his credit he refused saying as many on here have said, he's hasn't won anything yet. But all the signs point to a really good long term coach for our club.

Chook.

Wasn't there some bonus attached to robbos contact this year. Something like doubling his salary if we make the top 4? Sure I read that earlier in the year.

I hope you are right. He deserves it for how he has performed this season. Roosters are already certainties for top 4 and a good chance to be number 1.

Correct...although I don't know if doubling his salary is right, but it was supposedly "significant".

Deserves every cent.

As for the original question, the answer is no....for now.

Exactly what happened to Ricky Stuart with three of his assistant coaches from his time with us coaching first grade and Dean Pay down at Melbourne (I think he's still there anyway)

Robbo was a huge part of 2010 as Green, Taylor, Fitzy etc are to 2013.

Agree totally. He's only on peanuts this first year isn't he. Sure I read around 300k and chance to go to 600k should we finish top 4.

He's bought the best out of everybody right now and our defence has been the best in a long time not to mention we have been attacking with such ferocity in games that only south's and Melbourne could match us.

I would say he's been our best coach.

The problem with Sticky was that he actually thought he could do it all himself. Trent is a lot smarter than Stuart in that regard. He'll always have Fitzy as he wouldn't coach at another club against us. Sticky never had Peter O'Sullivan either. He'll be supplying Robbo the cream of a wide crop for years to come.

Chook.
