how much of that $150m cost is attributable to the roof construction?

there is this love affair with having stadiums with roofs in this country, as if fans wont attend if a ground doesnt have one. Look what the Gold Coast has now. I fancy roof on their stadium that no one pays to go too.

American NFL teams and college football teams reguarly have the issue of new stadiums rearing hits head, and almost all are generally built without roofs. Someone has to foot the bill, whether it's the government/taxpayer, the club/uni/fans, or both groups. Stadiums can be built with larger capacity for a cheaper price without the exhorbinant luxury of a farkin roof.

Less cost couldve resulted in cheaper rent for Titans, cheaper tix for GC fans. The millions extra spent is virtually dead money.

lol, I am guessing you haven't seen the difference in crowds at stadiums without roofs when it rains here? Australians are not used to bad weather and will not sit for 2 hours in the rain.

ps check out the latest NFL stadium in Dallas, look whats on top!

undercover or not, crowd numbers are always lower when it rains.

I said almost all.................and that's a dome, not a half-arsed roof. It's a multi-purpose (and I mean for everything, not just sport) venue. Jerry Jones considers it his swinging dick. The Yanks go either all or nothing, not half-arsed. For the purposes of a field sport or even outdoor tennis courts etc, they don't spend dead money on covering 50% of the crowd.

.

True but if it is a difference betweena 25% drop or a 75% drop then it does make a difference.

I grew up standing on the terraces of Northern England when we played in winter and it would be a -5 wind chill so a bit of warm rain doesn't bother me but try talking the Mrs into dragging the 2 kids along and there's no chance.

How often does it rain on game day? I have no idea but it seems it is a common occurence at RL grounds these days, at least it gives us an excuse for 5hithouse crowds I suppose?

If this was the AFL they would bail Titans out by buying the CofE, allowing titans free use of it and then using it as a base for massive jnr and grass root development in the area. What will the ARLC do? Well its a good test of their early resolve of their claim to see the existing clubs strengthend.

Perth red your right,

the " franchise" has to remain, it can't possibly fail ,
The NRL must help in any way shape or form to prop it up and wear any incumbent lossess

Call the governments bluff, break the skilled stadium contract, pay for the loss, play out of PZ park and see how stadiums Qld will look with no tenants.....( change of government may be more sympathetic)

Or call Clive

Bingo. We have a winner. I was thinking Clive should just buy and rent it back to the Tits. Low risk investment. But the Arl idea is much better.

or the NRL couldve done it right from the start. they shouldve tipped in for the construction bill, negotiated mgmt rights of the stadium, ensured there was proper corporate governance structure at the club, and basically have an input into the venture in a region where rugby league has already failed 3 times. that's what their competition did- they have given the Suns the best opportunity to succeed in a professional sports graveyard by doing their due dilligence and coming up with an extrance strategy that eases the pain in the short-term.

but instead, the NRL put the entire survival of the game on the gold coast into the hands of an accountant who could talk spin.

As I said before Stadium owners sound like the big Pub Co's in England with raising rent putting many a Pub out of business yet to me it doesn't make good business sense.

So the NRL . or the rest of the NRL clubs have to keep bailing out the Titans, what a wank, the Titans got their NRL licence based on a rock solid businees plan, or so they said, they are nothing more than glorified free loaders.
Let them fail and move the franchise up north as a second Brissie team, Gold Coast supporters can get a bus or train up and proper corporate support can be had.

Shift em to Brisbane.

Brisbane Titans, that way they're in a better stadium, have more access to sponsors and a larger fan base.

The NRL couldve contributed a small percentage into the construction, and negotiated stadium management rights in return.

The position the NRL finds itself on the Gold Coast is direct result of all the shit that's gone on since Superleague. It's return to the Gold Coast was flawed with it's success largely reliant on one bloke. After 3 failed attempts up there, a different approach was required. A controlled entry. This is what the other mob are doing and they've already reaped benefits after 1 freakin season.

the Suns should never have got a stadium seeing the AFL had agreed any new team would play out of the GABBA until 2015

it was part of the upgrade deal

Apparantley Ronny C loved them, and helped accordingly

In and article in the courier mail today ( can't post links) , it suggests community fallout over the Titans is also attributed to czar searle suing half the gold coast..

A shame , cause engaging the community is one thing , engaging them in the supreme court is another
