It appears 2UE is back in the game for RL radio rights

There are also concerns behind the scenes that World Cup organisers will give the rights to 2GB, fearing a backlash from broadcaster Ray Hadley should they give the rights to their rival station.

that is truly unbelievable, lmfao

If there's one thing you can't fault the CCT on 2GB for it's the game calls. They're always 100% professional during their call - .

yeah i particularly like their 7.30pm saturday call...especially when the abc is covering the union or something gay

The only thing Hadley was ever good at was calling the relay races on Grand Final day at SCG.;-)

Roy's passion for rugby league is long gone. It's obvious. It's a shame he couldn't move on to swimming as a full-time gig.

Andrew Moore and Blocker Roach spend more time making jokes, berating players and criticising the quality of the game these days. Moore was good once. It certainly wouldn't be a good thing if Moore & co. went on making fun of some of the names that will be on show in the World Cup.

They are far from 100 percent professional.

We don't need exclusive commercial radio rights at all for NRL. For the World Cup however, that's a different story (as it is for most World Cup-type tournaments). If they go with a station they is not willing to pay a cent (as was suggested in the article) then it's an absolute joke. I guess we'll wait and see what will eventuate.

I still can't fathom how these deals have not been done yet for a tournament starting in October. Typical.

Funny how Brutus hasn't responded to my comment.

Regardless of what people think of 2GB's coverage on the Continuous Call, it won't be like that for the World Cup.

But once again, people are jumping the gun here. However, the RLIF/ARL have really dropped the ball on this one. Is the entire tournament going to be this unorganised?

In an ideal world, Kangaroos games and NZ games would be on 2GB and the rest on ABC and 2UE.

Your the one who has dropped the ball with your comment, the tournament has many things in place, Overseas TV coverage, sponsors, corp packages,Tv contracts, ticketing,Govt grants, venues.A local radio rights is hardly a giant issue.
The tournament is under the auspices of the ARL,the NRL have some input, but all the negotiations were done by Love and whoever.

They're still trying to work out who is eligible for what...

What a f*cking rubbish blanket statement you've managed to make there...

The CCT has been far more pro-active this year in grilling the NRL for it's shortcomings. Yeah they f*ck around and play songs, but they've done far more for the game than their TV counterpart, the Footy Show.

In addition to that, while I don't like Ray Hadley, he is simply the second best commentator in rugby league, and easily the best on radio. I'd rather him calling the games (which is what this RLWC rights battle would be about, not their antics for 5 hours as they wouldn't have the full show) than some boring drone fro 2UE.

Fair dinkum wake up to yourself champ, hardley has done everything in his power to destroy our game in the last few years so he can bump up his weekday ratings....Second best commentator...hahaha thats very funny..

Why be concerned,Hadley and the rest of the jabronis on 2GB are not bigger than the game. For the RLWC we should be aiming and striving to give the most all round and professional coverage we can.Give it to some other station that has rugby league' s best interests at heart.

would a radio station really want the rights ?

the "world cup" will be a real bore with the only interest being if it is england or nz are the least hopeless and are the whipping boys for australia in the final

dont watch it then! (or listen to it)

the world cup will be unreal, and will set the platform for international rugby league for years to come.

More agenda driven ranting. Has anyone checked facts or are they continuing to ignore the fact it's all based on a rumour?

It doesn't matter if the specifics are just rumours. The issue of WC radio rights stands. Hadley shouldn't get it because he's a pillock and because hardly anyone outside Sydney will get the broadcast. The issue of whether the NRL rights cover internationals is also important and clearly they do not.

And it should be a case of 'may the best bid win' - not a case of giving it to the exsisting broadcaster free of charge for fear of a bit of name calling and criticism on air.

Interesting how the article says Colin Love refused to return calls on the issue.

What we need is a station completely committed to promoting the tournament and talking it up at every opportunity whilst giving it the coverage it deserves. After all, rugby league is this city's number one game.

Brutus dead set has to be a machine or something. Same dribble everytime.

Here is a relevant question, who broadcasts (on radio) the Kangaroo tests?

Brutus is right on this one. He's the leading voice on here when it comes to the poor deals being done by the NRL, in particular, when it comes to broadcast deals and he's spot on in this case as well.
