Sorry, is this the right place to ask about IT? I see it's computers and video games, but I have an internet question.

I am looking to change service to the Optus naked cable plan that is $50 a month and 120g download service. Can anyone tell me what internet speed this will be when I download? For example one g per second?

Sorry one last question. If I buy the wifi modem will I be able to turn wireless on and off? Because I hear about people stealing internet. I want to use one of my laptops near my TV so will the internet reach on wireless about 15m away? Thanks and sorry for all the question.

Download speeds are relative to the speed in which files are being sent. Max speed achievable though should be on the Optus site.


Security is by password. What you have alluded to is more the people who just grab the modem out of the box & don't do the 3 minutes of prep work. Can it still be cracked? Yes. Is it worth most neighbours time & effort? No.


As for range, again, relative. But unless you have lead-filled walls, you should be ok.

Most modems don't have wi-fi turn on/off from what I hear, but talk to the sales rep about this - he'll tell you how to secure it.

Um, yes they do. There may not be a switch on the exterior but every wifi modem can have the wifi component disabled through the management interface.

Most modems have a setup wizard and setting the wifi password is generally included in that process.
