Iongi
JAC
Penisini
Russell
Simonssen
Pezet
Moses
Hopgood
Smith
Paulo
Williams
Kautoga
JDB

TDS
Walker
Doorey
Tuivaiti
Joash
Tuilagi

from what I saw today, and assuming those not playing are fit come round 1.

Guymer
Samrani
Moretti
Kell

will all get time on that extended bench rotation

Brown also a smokey
I’d probably have Kelly & Guymer as the first drops.
Even after yesterday I was like Trown is well behind but then I looked at the players after Moretti/Samrani and maybe someone like Trown or Latu is closer than expected.

Renisini
Volkman
Mataele
Tago
Matterson

The top 3 are probably equal next depending on positional requirements.
Tago may interchange with Renisini based on length of requirement/Renisini development.
Matterson would require the NRL not granting dispensation on top of us having 9 players unavailable, just to be on extended bench.

I already Pousplained this for you, more than once. But since you keep forgetting or you obviously love the sound of my voice, here it is again:

We have a lot of youngsters now for the same reason we had a lot of youngsters about six years ago under Arthur's; because a good crop came through the pathways.

I think the main port of call now, since Ryles has taken over, is we are hugely investing and prioritising pathways/academy. So much so we now spend the most money on coaching/training/HOP for our juniors than any other NRL club does.

To expand on what BA didnt do with youth...

We all have heard of a leadership group

At Parra we now have 4 different leadership groups
NRL - Moses, Paulo, (i think Hopgood and Williams)
Emerging NRL (Iongi, Penisini etc..)
Cup
and Youth

So something we have lacked big time under BA, is young leaders coming through.

As Ryles mentioned in the Parra forum, Not all leaders are born leaders, they can be brought through and learn...This obviously starts young

There was also that report of Nepotism through the youth ranks that Nathan Brown submitted to the club through our juniors, under BAs watch. That is one way to lose good talent to other clubs

So while we have always had good juniors, we are changing up things up very differently... for the better, All driven by our current head coach

Pathways are a very expensive part of the game, and that spending is well above the head coach’s pay grade. It’s no coincidence that we started this spending after we’d finished paying for the CoE. It also requires patience from the head coach, and Ryles’ buy in here would be a big part of why he got the job.

And we haven’t always had very good juniors. Prior to 2023 we barely won above under 17s level for decades.

Fantastic points all - I actually think there may have been an emerging leadership group under the old coach but membership depended your surname or your junior club.

The trial confirmed a few things, if Tago is anywhere near NRL there has been a failure in acknowledging he is not good enough, Alemeddine in limited time , basically is more than equal and he was getting pumped last year in Flegg. Renisini and Nanva are more than capable to take the wing position if needed.

The young forwards are more than capable, and when Coinakis came on agst Newtown, he was superior to the starting hooker by a fair way. The need to progress these young players sensibly is paramount, see how we go.

I would say the decision is made in conjunction with at least the who is being hired as head coach. If we had hired Skeletor he may not have been completely divorced from it but I think he’d have been in more of a win now mindset so the more effective money is spent in pushing that rather than juniors.
It’s no coincidence that we started this spending after we’d finished paying for the CoE.
This is very good point. I had another walk around there this weekend. It’s a great setup especially for juniors.
It also requires patience from the head coach, and Ryles’ buy in here would be a big part of why he got the job.
Hiring Ryles I think was a highly thought out decision. I mean they had 11 years amirite?
I agree the junior investment clearly started prior to him because the players were here before Ryles, but I think from the way he talks, Ryles sold himself on improving on the next steps or at least focusing the rep players in the system.

If you think things haven’t changed in the pathways since Baldie got punted you really are getting high of Bea Arthur’s taint.

On junior's just looking at the past Ball sides on the NSWRL website we didn't have a great strike rate of them coming through to first grade especially when we have a decent junior rugby league area.

Baldy had his plans and good on him they didn't work or his plans didn't gel with who ever our head of football was all those years.

Now we are trying something new-ish and hopefully it produces the fruits. If it doesn't then it doesn't and try something else ffs.

Btw if we dont sign Lorima Seuseu on a 10 year deal now then sack everyone

I hate to go early on a kid but he does look an elite talent... i.e. capable of playing NRL at 18 level of talent if we look after him.

He is just physically bullying kids in Matts even though he is still 15 and everything he does just has class about it.

One area we still look light on is junior OB's coming through... plenty of halves and middles. I think even at his age he HAS to be a priority.

There was something very reminiscent of a young Clint Gutherson in the way Apa Twidle played — he looks every bit a future first-grader and hopefully someone we keep long term. That said, we also have to be realistic, because Samrani looked like peak Lomax in that performance.

Sam Tuivaiti, though, looks genuinely special — probably the best prop we’ve produced in the past decade. He’s the one we absolutely need to lock up long term. What a beast. I didn’t mind Teancum Brown either.

Our defensive systems seem so much better. Hats off to the coaching staff.

Sam is a gun the first try yesterday was set up from his run drawing in 4 defenders leaving them thin on the wings.

A few time I thought he KO'd himself in defence he needs to be careful.

Ryda i think needs to go back to Ball and give his body and head time to recover.

I don’t think this was ever going to happen. He knows what’s required to win now and those conditions don’t yet exist here. There’s a reason he’s left every club (other than the Broncos) after a few years, and it’s because premiership windows close whether you win or not. There is nothing to be done about it other than rebuild.

He isn’t winning now at Souths either.
