Im sick of hearing people qualifying players shitting on international RL by saying these players need to earn a living, need too pay the bills

Semi earns 1/4 of a MILLION dollars a year......milford earns 1/2 a MILLION....both of em will double their contracts next time around...semi $500k+ and milford nigh on a million dollars a year..

STOP PUTTING IT ON THEY ARE ON THE BREADLINE AND THEY NEED TO RUIN THE INTEGRITY OF INTERNATIONAL RL TO EARN A QUID!!

At the end of the day it is just plain wrong that Semi will be playing for Australia. Ironic how he was late returning to off season training with Parra because he was back HOME in Fiji.

He was born in Australia and has played all his junior league in Australia...

Tedesco has played for Italy too... Should he never be available to represent Australia either?

Yes once you play a full game for any nation you shouldn't be allowed to play for any other nation.

I have no issue with islanders playing for the big 3 so long as when they are not picked that they can play for the islands again with no interference.

I would also like to see a combined island super team like the west indies at the 4 nations of Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and Cook Islands combined. Maybe even add in PNG.

The idea is simple. Make international football the best possible teams at all possible. It will help generate a larger interest in the matches.

They are playing for these "heritage" nations because the rules allow them to switch back to their birth & development countries.

If you change the rules don't expect too many of them to play for their "heritage" countries come world cup time.

I wouldn't expect them to, players like Semi Radrada who moved to a country as an athlete shouldn't even have the option to play for Australia, IMHO of course.
Players who have a different background should be able to play for that country if they so choose if it is a reasonably close connection. As an example my future kids will be eligible to play for England, Vietnam and Australia. But as far as I'm concerned and barring any major changes in my life should only be playing for Australia.
This happens in football and not only do they have a credible international calendar but the world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world.

Id have no issue with selected for life but it couldnt be applied retroactively so someone like milford could still make a final choice on who he played for (it would be Australia)

But keep in mind that one cant have their cake and eat it too. Nrl players dusting off the family tree to see if they are loosely connected to a smaller country during the rlw adds to the quality of matches. Forget about milford hes been identified as a futute world class player since he was 15 but even fringe guys like paul vaughan would (likely) choose to chance his arm at playing for australia/nsw then repping italy.

Don't worry Fiji and Samoa will both win a major tournament before England

I would have no issue with them drawing a line in the sand and saying whoever you play for next is where you stay forever.
Keith Galloway after getting 5 Kangaroo caps has suddenly decided he likes haggis and irn-bru and intends to play for Scotland in the World Cup.
In football you still get players who play for heritage nations and some even decide at a younger age that they're never going to play for say England and choose to fully commit to another nation. Paul Dummet is a born and bred Geordie but decided he wasn't a world beater and will now play in the European Championships alongside Gareth Bale for Wales which is his fathers nation I believe.
Gareth Bale was the worlds most expensive player, in Rugby League would he have played for his home nation even though they haven't been to a world cup since the 1950s? Unlikely and thats wrong.

.

This just wouldn't work and once again elevates the big 3 above all the other nations. Theoretically you're saying a player could literally play for one country one week, get dropped and play for another the next week, then be reselected for the 'big 3' country again that year, get dropped and play for the 'minor nation' after that. International sport does not grow like that. The big 3 countries will run big training squads full of players who won't make it and then get selected for someone else, while island nations won't have a clue who is going to be eligible, not be able to plan for the future and won't have a pool of players to meet with, share future plans with and promote rugby league in their country. A massive no to quick fixes. This needs to be done right!

It is absolutely ridiculous that that Semi is picked for Australia. Meninga might well have been a great player, but he is a tool when it comes to making decisions for the overall good of Rugby League.

He picked anybody who has seen Queensland on a map for Origin, now he is doing the same for the Australian team.

I am passionate about international rugby league, but I will boycott any game where islanders are picked to represent Australia, or NZ for that matter unless they are genuine Aussies or Kiwis. Tamou was a joke, but at least he hadn't played for the kiwis.

As an Aussie living overseas, I get sh*t because we bend the rules to suit ourselves. In this case it is just so idiotic.

Rugby League people = Rugby Leagues biggest enemy

Simple RLIF to change residency eligibility rules

Residency rule needs 2 year waiting period

Unless changing from Big 3 to non Big 3 nation

Junior internationals to also count
