We are pretty much just stuck and doomed to continue repeating this shit.

It's not only the admin that doesn't get it, the players don't seem to give a shit about international sport the way other sports players do.

Don't blame the players. It is their job to play the game, not to administer it.

I wonder what percentage of the whole code's financial and administrative resources are being expended in Australia, totally for Australia's benefit. 70%? More? Whatever it is, the whole sport globally is being run to suit Australia's financial interests. The players are just the pawns in the game.

It is absolutely ridiculous that that Semi is picked for Australia. Meninga might well have been a great player, but he is a tool when it comes to making decisions for the overall good of Rugby League.

He picked anybody who has seen Queensland on a map for Origin, now he is doing the same for the Australian team.

I am passionate about international rugby league, but I will boycott any game where islanders are picked to represent Australia, or NZ for that matter unless they are genuine Aussies or Kiwis. Tamou was a joke, but at least he hadn't played for the kiwis.

As an Aussie living overseas, I get sh*t because we bend the rules to suit ourselves. In this case it is just so idiotic.

Rugby League people = Rugby Leagues biggest enemy

Why exactly is Mal a tool for this? Semi is the best winger in the game right now, and has officially declared himself for Australia. It's not like Mal or anyone else went 'round and coerced him into switching to Australia, he made the choice himself.

Shame on the NRL
Shame on semi
Shame on rlif

No wonder there is ten times more discussion and focus on SOO than international RL.

The players should want to play for their nations though. Imagine if he could have inspired a Fijian side to some great results in the world cup and get in to the last 4, but instead he's gone for the money.
Gareth Bale is a prime example could have played for England but chose Wales his actual country instead. He took a financial hit in the process although admittedly he is still much better off than every RL player.
The upshot is he helped Wales to qualify for their first major international tournament since 1958. International sport should only be about playing for and representing your nation not making money.

If anyone thinks the Aussies aren't pissing about with players international allegiances then read this article about David Mead.

https://www.nrl.com/semi-doing-his-people-proud-says-mead/tabid/10874/newsid/95326/default.aspx

"Picking who you want to play for is always a little bit tough but my heart's always with PNG."

Why the hell does City-Country still exist? No-one in contention for NSW wants to play in it anymore so they just chock the team up with young Islanders and nobodies. It is obvious clubs don't want it.

To make it worse they run it on the international weekend - so the likes of David Maed, Kane Evans, Waqa Blake and Aquil Uate pull out of the Pacific tests.

The only reason Semi wants to play for Oz and NSW is the huge rep payments. Playing 1-3 tests and 3 origins per year is an extra $120-180K per year FFS.

Removing any payment for internationals, or better yet applying equal payment to all NRL contracted players who represent ANY nation would help out enormously.

Im sick of hearing people qualifying players shitting on international RL by saying these players need to earn a living, need too pay the bills

Semi earns 1/4 of a MILLION dollars a year......milford earns 1/2 a MILLION....both of em will double their contracts next time around...semi $500k+ and milford nigh on a million dollars a year..

STOP PUTTING IT ON THEY ARE ON THE BREADLINE AND THEY NEED TO RUIN THE INTEGRITY OF INTERNATIONAL RL TO EARN A QUID!!

Do you know many islanders? In island culture its not about the individual its about the family. The boys i grew up with all sent money home to their family in the islands to help out as the economy there is rubbish, then they would give money to their parents, also money to their local church etc. They go on holidays back to tonga and samoa with suitcases full of clothes and are lucky to come back with the clothes they are wearing. I read somewhere (it was an nfl article) that tongas biggest export was its people and its economy would collapse if family members living in other countries stopped sending money home. How can you blame semi? Hes probably supporting his whole village with his salary.

Yes once you play a full game for any nation you shouldn't be allowed to play for any other nation.

This wont strengthen those smaller nations. If this was the rule Milford would of never played for Samoa and Tedesco for italy. I read Matai will play for Samoa in the world cup, that would never happen either, older players going back to their smaller nations late in their careers.

It won't help in the short term but in the long term it will provide more competitive and genuine national teams as well as giving countries a pool of players committed to only them. I can see the advantage in letting a civoneceva switch later in their careers if they apply for a one off change to help out rugby league in that particular country.
