NFL hasn't missed a beat by changing their habits

the NFL has a college system spitting out 10x the number of players per year that the NFL needs, so they can just cut anyone who isn’t willing to voluntarily do what is necessary to get the max performance out of them.

endurance is also simply not a requirement in the NFL so the workouts are not comparable

Body temp got to 42 degrees. WTF!!

Read in another article the outside training temperature was 24 degrees, they weren't flogging them on a 42 degree day.

Does seem like a freak accident. How many thousands have been flogged in preseasons over the years and had not much go wrong? No doubt plenty have spewed their guts up but no hospitalisations or deaths to speak of.

gotta imagine there was an underlying health issue involved, although the trainers still should be able to identify heatstroke when it’s setting in. Clubs should be using vitals monitoring during training for that very reason. Lots of solutions that monitor heart rate and rhythm, along with respiratory rate and body temp

The NRL lower grades does the same. You only need to look at the relevant Australian schoolboys teams or junior Origin to see how few highly rated kids don't make it.

Players will still do extras, They will just do what they can handle. Take the Titmus enquiry recommendations, None of them on the surface look as though they are bad for overall performance.

Just that you can't flog a player from day 1. Week 3 on wards go for it

According to media reports on briefs filed with the court, the wrestling session in question lasted for (iirc) 6 minutes in total. Apparently it is one used at many clubs in the NRL.

Also, the Bulldogs in its filings have alleged that Topine's Manager was circulating his client's name as being "off contract" in the weeks prior to this issue blowing up and him walking out.

It's amazing how the Bulldogs have said it lasted for six minutes and used at many clubs.
I wouldn't have expected their filings to be so partisan!

Realistically, unless there is anything that dramatically unusual about the Bulldogs training/punishments, I don't see Topine winning this matter.

To alienate a team member and use the entire squad against him is disgusting. He would've left that day thinking all his team mates were against him. Make him run laps or lift extra weights, but don't use the entire squad against him as punishment.

I hate Travis Touma, mainly due to the 2019 GF, but this is not on.

Have you ever been part of a rugby league team? This sort of thing has happened in every team I’ve played in - I was on the receiving end, I was on the ‘dishing it out’ side plenty of times, and I can honestly say it ‘being personal’ never crossed my mind, and never did I judge the other players, it’s just standard practice. And with the banter amongst the team, it’s usually more of a bit of a laugh that you’re getting flogged by everyone. It’s not personal, everyone knows that, but it’s about standards, standards that are required to be successful (whatever the level) - and it replicates a game, if you have low standards, you’re gonna get flogged by the 17 blokes on the other team, and you’re also gonna make your mates suffer…. These ‘punishments’ are to replicate those type of consequences, but also to act as a deterrent.
I’m pretty sure 99% of blokes who’ve played in rugby teams competitively will have seen similar, regularly.

Not at the first grade level, no.

This clearly went too far, and wasn't a bit of a laugh.
