Jake Marketo

I haven't watched all the games, but I don't ever remember seeing Jake Marketo have a bad game.

I think Mary is playing him at hooker for part of the game because he's not overly satisfied with the job that Rein Has been doing.

What is it about Jake that makes you say he's a fringe first grader?

From what I've seen he's a talented player that shows courage and a positive attitude on the field.

It's true he has never had a bad game. Trouble is he has never really had a good game either, in the sense of having a blinder (like Sims last week), or even having a key moment that lifts the team (like a crunching tackle or a good off-load). He is what he is and as a hooker does a fair job if this was the 1970's. Trouble is it's 2016 and he doesn't have the running or kicking game that other front-line hookers have. Good back-up player but that's about it.

And here in lies the problem with Rein IMO . On a scale of 10 for Rein. Tackling 8, passing 2, kicking -2, running maybe 4 . Doesn't cut the mustard and not worth having next year. Would a new coach make a difference to his game? Maybe but I don't want to wait.

Rein linked with Knights over the weekend. Saints look like they are still interested in Ray Thomson and he looked quite good on the weekend. A step up from Rein.

Baptiste is also a gun and Segyaro still available which would be a good option as well.

Some talk that Isaac Luke is unhappy in NZ & wants to come back to souths which is why they are holding off on signing Farah.I bet we end up with McInnes.

After watching the Raiders game yesterday we should be after Baptiste.
I think he'd really go well as a starting hooker which he won't get at the Raiders
I coached Kurt as a 12 yr. old in junior reps. He used to be a really talented 5/8. On the subject of getting Canberra players why don't we go after Vaughn and Fensom, they can't get a look in for the raiders but would slot straight in to our pack. Also I hear Luke Douglas might have to be punted from the Titans.

Fensom wouldn't be worth it, weve got plenty of workhorses already. Vaughn would be a great pickup. Not sold on Baptiste, everyone is loving him at the moment because the Raiders are going well but he's been there for years, there are younger, better options out there.

I think it's probably because Market's 15kg to lite and throws stupid passes. He's to small and not real smart. If he not McG's mate he would be in reserve grade.

Could someone please explain the ideology of Marketo starting the game at Hooker when he is a fringe first grader who plays in the back row.
McGregor has created a revolutionary attack structure that has rendered the dummy half - usually a highly important position requiring a smart, skilful player - virtually a redundant role that can be performed by any dull hack.

JDB would be perfect for the role then................let's trial him this week.

If the offer to Rein has been pulled, it makes you wonder why?
Who do they have in mind? Its been apparent for months that Rein was on the outer, and in that time therea been a few good hookers who became available.
Segeyaro and Peats, not to mention that young gun from the tigers who recently signed with the sharks.
Why didnt we move earlier?
Maybe we are waiting for the domino effect of hookers once farah signs somewhere?
I just hope we get a decent hooker not another makeshift hooker.

Doubt this needs to be asked. The club didnt move earlier because the people in charge are utterly incompetent.

Still, jettisoning Rein is a positive outcome

Am hoping Marketo is not given another contract.

Sims, Mose, Host and Leilua all deserve a bench spot in front of him.
Thats some size, skill, and agression on that bench!!!
With cooper gone next year one of these boys will slot into to the starting 13, the other 3 on the bench and a back up dummy half also.

Marketo is solid without being great. I feel for the bloke as he always gives 100% which is more than we can say for the rest of the team. Unfortunately he doesn't have the right build or skills to be a good first grader and effort doesn't count. I feel for the guy.

If the rest of the team played with his intensity and attitude we would be alot higher on the ladder than we are. Unfortunately for most of the year you could only really pick a handful of players (Frizzell, Nightingale, aitken, packer, Mann) who have.

He's not a bad player, just nothing special in his current form. Too slow to be a back, too small to be a forward. He should pick a single position and work on it over the offseason. Other players could learn a thing or two from his effort though.

In a different system I think Marketo could be a handy bench player. He's in the mould of Allan Tongue and Jake Friend (circa Melbourne Storm days).

I remember when Friend would come off the bench for Melbourne, Bellamy gave him one instruction, "get busy and be an absolute pest to the opposition".

Difference being Friend had a simple role in a well drilled team, whereas Marketo is asked to play as a running forward against some monster packs as well fill a spine position.

In such an average side Marketo is a glaring weakness and unlike Friend at Storm he really doesn't fill any of our needs or add anything whatsoever.

I think he should just head up to the QLD cup and be a superstar up there. Probably make more money too.
